Zendaya & Tom Holland Revise Scene on ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Set After On-Set Clash
Tom Holland and Zendaya took initiative to reshape a scene during the filming of Spider-Man: Brand New Day after realizing it wasn’t working as intended.
In a recent interview shared via Good Hang, Holland recounted how the situation unfolded on set. While shooting coverage for a scene with Zendaya, both actors sensed that something was off and decided to voice their concerns instead of pushing through the discomfort.
Holland explained that their discussion began casually between takes. They first checked in with each other before approaching the producers with their thoughts. Both agreed that the scene lacked the emotional depth and impact they were aiming for. Holland noted that it wasn’t just about minor tweaks; the core feeling of the moment wasn’t translating on screen.
He recalled expressing, “I know we’ve been shooting for hours and I hate to tell you this, but I don’t think that this scene is working. What we’re supposed to feel, we’re not feeling it in the moment.”
Upon receiving their feedback, the director responded swiftly. Holland described the director as calm and receptive to input. Instead of continuing with the scene, the director instructed the crew to wrap up for the day and reset.
Holland stated, “Everyone can go home and we’re gonna sit down and rewrite this scene.” The production team then paused to rework the material before returning to reshoot the scene the next day. Holland mentioned that the revised version resonated much better in the final film.
He also reflected on how unique the experience was, particularly being able to openly discuss a scene with Zendaya. Holland humorously noted that such candid conversations would feel quite different with someone he wasn’t as familiar with.
This moment has garnered attention as it highlights the collaborative nature of major film productions, even in large superhero projects like this one. Rather than rigidly adhering to the script, the cast and crew opted to pause and enhance the scene together.
