Zoë Kravitz and Sadie Sink Star in Netflix’s Interactive Horror Game ‘Unhinged’
Netflix is set to introduce a fresh horror experience with ‘Unhinged’, an interactive thriller that immerses players in a gripping night of survival. The game features Zoë Kravitz, Sadie Sink, and Troy Baker, designed to blur the lines between observing a narrative and actively participating in it.
Created by Netflix’s Night School Studio, the team behind ‘Oxenfree’ and ‘Oxenfree II: Lost Signals’, ‘Unhinged’ centers on Ava, a woman trapped in her apartment building during a fierce hurricane. What starts as a mere blackout escalates into a nightmare as Ava realizes that a lurking danger may be hiding within the building.
As reported by Netflix Tudum, the official source for the game’s announcement, players will navigate the story through Ava’s eyes, utilizing their phones as controllers. This innovative design aims to deliver a more personal horror experience, making every choice and movement feel integral to Ava’s fight for survival.
In ‘Unhinged’, Ava’s sole connection to the outside world is her best friend Claire, who reaches out to her during the storm. Claire is voiced by Sadie Sink, while Zoë Kravitz lends her voice to Ava. Troy Baker also contributes as Ben, the building’s superintendent, adding another recognizable voice to the suspenseful narrative.
The story kicks off with Ava trapped by a Category 5 hurricane, but the weather is just one aspect of the looming threat. The apartment building grows increasingly eerie as locked doors, unsettling noises, and signs of another presence turn her sanctuary into a space of distrust.
Netflix describes the game as an immersive thriller where players are not merely spectators. Instead, their phones play a crucial role in the experience, allowing them to control Ava’s flashlight, receive calls and messages, and interact with her surroundings.

The game offers players various ways to engage with the narrative. Those who prefer a more relaxed experience can opt for Story Mode, which eliminates time constraints and allows for exploration without the fear of death. For those seeking a greater challenge, Standard Mode requires quick decision-making to navigate perilous situations.
A standout feature of ‘Unhinged’ is its integration of real-world phone functions to heighten tension. When Ava receives a call or message, the player’s phone will ring, vibrate, and emit audio, creating a more authentic emergency feel.
The project showcases a collaboration of talented creators. Night School Studio developed the game, while composer Jason Hill, known for his work on ‘Mindhunter’ and ‘Gone Girl’, crafted the score. Sound designer Ren Klyce, recognized for his contributions to ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’, also lent his expertise to the audio elements.
Netflix has announced that ‘Unhinged’ will launch on June 30, exclusively through Netflix Games. Players will only need a Netflix account, a compatible device, and their phone to dive into Ava’s chilling experience.
With Hollywood talent, a gripping horror narrative, and gameplay that merges television with interactive entertainment, ‘Unhinged’ could signify another leap in Netflix’s efforts to integrate gaming into its platform. Fans will soon discover if this innovative approach can evoke the same suspense as traditional horror films.
