‘9-1-1’ Season 10 Release Date and First Trailer Teases Volcano Eruption in LA
‘9-1-1’ has established its identity by placing first responders in disasters that often feel exaggerated, from tsunamis crashing onto the shore to planes plummeting from the sky. This reputation for dramatic premieres has only intensified as the show embarks on a significant new chapter.
Season 10 marks a decade for the ABC procedural, with production commencing on July 27, leading up to a Thursday, October 15 premiere at 8/7c. This season continues to run alongside its spinoff ‘Nashville,’ a pairing that has consistently helped both series rank among the network’s top dramas.
The first poster for the upcoming season has been released, setting an intense tone. The artwork depicts downtown Los Angeles consumed by a massive volcanic eruption, with rivers of lava flowing through the streets and forming the word “9-1-1” in glowing orange, all under the tagline “Welcome to La-Va Land.”
A companion teaser clip emphasizes the seriousness of the situation, featuring a panicked voice exclaiming, “I’m trapped in a river of lava!” as the camera sweeps over a darkened city block. Between the poster and the teaser, it’s evident that the 118 crew is about to confront one of the most visually striking emergencies the franchise has ever tackled.

Showrunner Tim Minear has openly discussed the strange timing of this storyline, as the season was initially planned around a giant sinkhole before an actual sinkhole appeared on Sunset Boulevard earlier this year. Addressing this eerie coincidence, Minear told TVLine, “It’s not my fault,” while confirming that the sinkhole storyline evolves into a full volcanic eruption as the season progresses.

In addition to the disaster, Season 10 is set to explore several ongoing character arcs. Athena takes on a new role as a detective while still finding ways to intersect with the 118, Buck continues to navigate his responsibilities as Theo’s foster parent, and Eddie is still working through his recovery after being stabbed. Even Matthew Sparks, the former rookie cop dismissed back in Season 8, returns at an unfortunate time given his new city job when the sinkhole and volcano strike.

With Season 9 having left the extended 118 family coping with significant losses and life changes, Season 10 appears poised to blend that emotional rebuilding with one of the show’s most ambitious opening disasters yet. Given the franchise’s strong ratings leading into this milestone season, it’s hard to believe the volcanic premiere won’t deliver the kind of spectacle that longtime fans have come to expect.
