A highly anticipated music biopic has just hit theaters, reigniting interest in one of the most iconic artists in history. The film chronicles the life and career of Michael Jackson, from his beginnings in the Jackson 5 to his ascent as a global icon.

Titled ‘Michael’, the movie is directed by Antoine Fuqua and penned by John Logan. It features Jaafar Jackson, Michael’s nephew, in the lead role, alongside performances by Colman Domingo and Nia Long portraying various members of the Jackson family. However, not everyone close to Michael Jackson is involved in this project.

One notable absence is his daughter, Paris Jackson. She has been candid about her choice to not participate, voicing her concerns on social media. According to E! News, she reviewed an early draft of the script and was dissatisfied with its content.

“I read one of the first drafts of the script and gave my notes about what was dishonest / didn’t sit right with me and when they didn’t address it I moved on with my life. Not my monkeys not my circus. God bless and god speed,” she shared in an Instagram Story.

She later elaborated on her concerns, stating, “They’re gonna make whatever they’re gonna make. The big reason why I haven’t said anything up until this point is because I know a lot of you guys are gonna be happy with it,” adding that the film “panders to a very specific section of my dad’s fandom that still lives in a fantasy.”

Paris also raised questions about the narrative’s presentation. “The narrative is being controlled. There’s a lot of inaccuracy and there’s a lot of full-blown lies. At the end of the day, that doesn’t really fly with me. I don’t really like dishonesty.”

She addressed criticism directly, stating, “That’s not my truth…I just prefer honesty over sales and monetary gain.”

While the film includes contributions from some family members, such as Prince Jackson, who served as an executive producer, Paris and her siblings are not part of the production. Her remarks have added a significant layer to the ongoing conversation about the film, especially as audiences react to its portrayal of Michael Jackson’s life.
