Amazon Urges Fans to Avoid ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ Set Amid Filming Disruptions
Filming for a highly anticipated young adult romance project is in progress, prompting the studio to address the growing fan presence around shooting locations that has begun to interfere with production. This situation has ignited a broader discussion about privacy on sets and the extent to which audience enthusiasm should be expressed while filming is ongoing.
As reported by Amazon Prime Video’s official social media account, fans have been flocking to filming sites and sharing details online since production commenced last month in North Carolina. The issue has become increasingly apparent as unofficial images of cast members have circulated, leading to rampant online speculation regarding storylines and character developments.
The upcoming film continues the narrative of a beloved series and will mark its concluding chapter. It is based on the novels by Jenny Han, who also adapted the story for television. The cast features Lola Tung as Belly Conklin and Christopher Briney as Conrad Fisher, two pivotal characters whose relationships have significantly contributed to the series’ popularity since its inception.
In light of the increasing attention surrounding filming locations, Amazon Prime Video directly appealed to viewers for more restraint. The message, shared on X, expressed gratitude for fans’ enthusiasm but emphasized that visiting sets and disclosing locations online is causing significant issues for production.
The post stated, “We love the excitement, but sharing locations and visiting set disrupts filming and creates real safety concerns for our cast and crew. We’re working hard to create a protected bubble to make the best movie possible. Please help us protect the magic of Cousins until it’s ready to be shared.”
The studio also included a brief video with the message, showcasing individuals writing “PRIVACY PLEASE” in the sand, visually reinforcing their request. This isn’t the first time Amazon has had to address fan behavior related to the series, as previous seasons also experienced heightened online engagement that occasionally crossed into real-world interference.
Following the third season, Amazon’s TV leadership acknowledged the intensity of the fan response. Vernon Sanders, then head of Amazon TV, discussed the need to manage audience expectations while still valuing their support. He noted the importance of avoiding situations where enthusiasm turns into harassment or blurs the line between actors and their fictional roles.
The series has emerged as one of Amazon’s most successful youth-oriented dramas since its debut in 2022. It revolves around a love triangle involving Belly and the Fisher brothers, Conrad and Jeremiah, portrayed by Gavin Casalegno. The narrative has captivated a vast global audience, with the latest season attracting tens of millions of viewers shortly after its release.
After the final season aired, Amazon announced that the story would continue in film format, providing a concluding chapter beyond the series. While the project had been hinted at for some time, specific production details remained sparse until filming recently began.
With cameras now rolling, the studio aims for a smoother filming process moving forward. Amazon’s goal is to keep production uninterrupted, allowing the cast and crew to complete the project without outside disturbances, while still nurturing the strong fan interest that has fueled the series’ growth from the beginning.
