A new live-action Spider-Man story is on the horizon, taking a darker and more unconventional route than fans might anticipate. The upcoming series Spider-Noir is set to deliver a fresh interpretation of Marvel’s iconic web-slinger, along with a unique twist on one of his most notorious enemy teams.

The final trailer for the Amazon and MGM+ series showcases Nicolas Cage stepping into the shoes of a different Spider-Man variant, situated in a gritty 1930s setting. In this iteration, Cage portrays Ben Reilly, a masked crime fighter known as The Spider. The footage hints at a group inspired by the Sinister Six, although the lineup seems slightly altered and is referred to as a “Sinister Five” in the trailer.

Unlike previous Spider-Man narratives that center around Peter Parker, this series shifts the focus to a different character in a more somber environment. Developed by Oren Uziel, with Steven Lightfoot as showrunner, it continues the trend of exploring alternate Spider-Man universes, a concept that has gained traction in recent Marvel projects.

Nicolas Cage is already familiar with this version of the character, having previously voiced Spider-Man Noir in the animated Spider-Verse films. Those films were created by Phil Lord and Chris Miller, who are also involved as executive producers for this new live-action adaptation, marking a reunion between Cage and the creative team.

The villain roster includes several well-known Marvel characters. Abraham Popoola takes on the role of Lonnie Lincoln, also known as Tombstone. Brendan Gleeson appears as Silvermane, while Jack Huston portrays Flint Marko, better known as Sandman. Andrew Lewis Caldwell also joins the cast as Dirk Leydon, a character known as Megawatt.

Set in a stylized, crime-laden version of New York, the story follows the hero as he confronts organized crime and escalating threats from superpowered criminals. The trailer highlights a more grounded and noir-inspired tone compared to traditional Spider-Man tales.

The series is part of an expanding initiative to introduce live-action Spider-Man variants on television. While it remains uncertain whether Spider-Noir will continue beyond its first season, future plans will depend on audience reception. However, additional Spider-Man-related TV projects are reportedly in the works.

Spider-Noir is scheduled to premiere on MGM+ in the United States on May 25, followed by its arrival on Prime Video on May 27. Viewers will have the option to experience this darker version of Marvel’s universe in both black-and-white and color formats.
