Jensen Ackles has finally shed light on the moment that caused him to walk off set while filming the final season of ‘The Boys’. The actor recounted the incident at a recent fan convention, nearly a year after he first hinted at it.

The conversation began back in 2025 during Creation Entertainment’s “The Road So Far, The Road Ahead” event in Philadelphia. Ackles, alongside Misha Collins, discussed their experiences working on the highly anticipated fifth season, revealing that it would feature some of the most shocking moments in the series to date.

During that earlier event, Ackles described a scene that completely took him by surprise. He mentioned that he entered the scene without knowing what to expect, despite having rehearsed it in a different format.

“I walk into the scene. Soldier Boy. And I turn the corner and I go, ‘Oh my god.’ That wasn’t my line,” Ackles recalled. “And I was supposed to stay there. But I hadn’t seen what was going on.”

He explained that everything changed once filming commenced. Although he had prepared for the scene during rehearsals, the final version was drastically different when the cameras started rolling. The shock of it prompted him to step away momentarily.

“We’d blocked it out. We rehearsed it. Things changed when the camera was rolling,” he stated. “And I walked in and it was, ‘Dear God,’ and I just walked back out.”

Ackles also recounted the crew’s reaction when he unexpectedly left the scene. He noted that his departure caused confusion on set, but he quickly clarified that he was simply unprepared for what he encountered.

“They were like, ‘Uh, cut?’ And I was like, ‘I’m sorry. I wasn’t prepared for that,’” he explained. “And I don’t think anybody else will be either.”

In a more recent convention appearance, Ackles elaborated on what the scene entailed. He revealed that it featured a deeply unsettling and bizarre visual involving Homelander, portrayed by Antony Starr.

The scene depicted Homelander in a bathtub filled with stolen breast milk while interacting with Soldier Boy. This moment is part of a broader storyline that delves into Homelander’s psychological instability and emotional unraveling.

Ackles emphasized that his strong reaction stemmed not only from the shock value but also from how unexpected the final version was compared to what was initially planned. He believed he understood the scene going in, but the live filming altered everything.

The series creator, Eric Kripke, has not commented directly on Ackles’ specific reaction, but the show is known for altering scenes during filming to enhance impact and surprise even the actors involved.

For Ackles, the memory of that day remains vivid. Even months later, he continues to describe it as one of the most surprising experiences he has encountered on set.
