Eric Kripke Discusses Hughie and Starlight’s Child in Future ‘The Boys’ Spinoffs
The conclusion of ‘The Boys’ has ignited considerable conversation after creator Eric Kripke shed light on the final scene and its implications for Hughie, Starlight, and their impending child.
In the series finale, the narrative leaps forward in time following the defeat of Homelander and Butcher’s demise. The closing moments depict Hughie and Starlight enjoying a more peaceful life together. They have embarked on running an audiovisual store, while Starlight continues to don her superhero persona when necessary. The episode also reveals Starlight’s pregnancy, with the baby set to be named Robin.
This name carries emotional weight, honoring Hughie’s first girlfriend, who tragically lost her life to A-Train in the series’ inaugural episode. This detail beautifully ties the ending back to the beginning of the story, highlighting Hughie’s significant growth since that pivotal moment.
The series concludes with a poignant shot of Hughie, filled with emotion and hope, gazing at Starlight, who smiles confidently. This offers a serene resolution after years of turmoil, violence, and superpowered strife.
In a recent interview with ScreenRant, Kripke elaborated on the ending’s significance and whether their child might inherit superpowers in future narratives. His response was straightforward: the baby will not possess powers.
Kripke clarified that natural-born Supes are exceedingly rare in this universe, with the only known example being Ryan, Homelander’s son. All others acquire their abilities through Compound V, rather than through birth.
“No, the only born superhero is Ryan. Everyone else has to be injected,” Kripke stated. He further expressed that Hughie and Starlight are likely to strive for a normal life for their child, away from the perilous realm of superheroes and corporate influence.
“I’d like to think that they’ve learned their lesson and they’re going to give baby Robin a happy normal life,” he explained.
This indicates that the narrative is not gearing up for another powerful Supe child storyline, at least for the time being. Instead, the emphasis is on peace and healing after the characters’ tumultuous experiences.
In the series finale, Hughie even declines an offer from President Bob Singer to join a new government task force aimed at regulating Supes, signifying his departure from the violent cycle he has been entrenched in for so long.
As reported by ScreenRant, Kripke also discussed the broader future of the universe. While he did not confirm new seasons or spin-offs like ‘Gen V’ continuing significantly, he mentioned that there are still more stories to explore within this world.

For now, the conclusion centers on something much more intimate and personal. After years of chaos and bloodshed, Hughie and Starlight opt for a quieter existence. They distance themselves from the battle against Vought and aim to build a stable life together.
The final scene leaves them in a hopeful state. Hughie gazes at Starlight and their future child with a sense of relief, indicating that even in a world filled with Supes, they are striving to create a normal family life.
Kripke’s remarks affirm that this ending was intended to conclude their story on a tranquil note, rather than to set the stage for another generation of superpowered conflict.
