‘Spider-Noir’ vs. ‘The Boys’ Season 5: Fans Question Budget Disparity
A new conversation has emerged among fans of ‘The Boys’ following reports indicating that Amazon may have allocated a significantly higher budget to ‘Spider-Noir’ than to the final season of its popular superhero series.
This discussion kicked off after ‘Spider-Noir’, featuring Nicolas Cage, debuted on Prime Video. Shortly after its release, rumors regarding its substantial production budget began circulating online.
According to information shared by 3DVF, ‘Spider-Noir’ may have cost Amazon nearly $400 million. While neither Amazon nor Sony Pictures Television has officially verified this figure, it has certainly piqued the interest of viewers.
The budget speculation has become even more intriguing when compared to ‘The Boys’. Although Amazon has not disclosed the exact production costs for ‘The Boys’ Season 5, estimates suggest it was considerably less expensive.
According to Dexerto, episodes of ‘The Boys’ Season 4 likely cost around $15 million each. With eight episodes in a season, this would place the total budget between $120 million and $90 million for the final season.
If the rumored budget for ‘Spider-Noir’ is accurate, it would mean Amazon invested more than three times the amount on the Nicolas Cage series.

This stark contrast has left many fans questioning why the final season of one of Prime Video’s flagship shows might have received a smaller budget. Viewers had anticipated that ‘The Boys’ Season 5 would culminate in an epic finale, especially after years of buildup towards a showdown between Butcher and Homelander.
Showrunner Eric Kripke had previously raised expectations by stating that the final season would go “scorched earth.” Promotional materials also hinted at a massive confrontation, with Homelander surrounded by numerous Supes.
However, some fans felt the conclusion was less grand than anticipated. Instead of a large-scale battle featuring multiple characters, the climax primarily centered on the conflict between Butcher and Homelander.
The budget discussions have led some viewers to speculate whether financial constraints influenced the production. Kripke had previously mentioned that he was not working with a budget comparable to the massive battles seen in ‘Game of Thrones’. While there is no evidence that specific scenes were cut due to budgetary reasons, the comparison has ignited debate online.
Fan reactions have been intense. One viewer expressed on social media, “The betrayal of the century.” Another chimed in, “Man, we can’t stop thinking about what would happen if they gave that budget to ‘The Boys’.”
Despite the backlash, most fans are not directing their frustration at ‘Spider-Noir’ itself. Instead, many are simply intrigued by Amazon’s spending choices and what a larger budget could have meant for ‘The Boys’ final season.
The reported figures have also reminded viewers of Amazon’s history of investing heavily in major projects. According to Forbes, the first season of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ reportedly cost between $750 million and $1 billion, making it one of the most expensive television productions ever.
For now, the rumored $400 million budget for ‘Spider-Noir’ remains unconfirmed. Nevertheless, the comparison has sparked considerable discussion among fans, particularly those who hoped for a more expansive and ambitious conclusion for ‘The Boys’.
Both ‘Spider-Noir’ and ‘The Boys’ are currently available for streaming on Prime Video.
