Watch Mbappé Join the Minions in New ‘Minions & Monsters’ Teaser

Illumination has unveiled a special teaser for its upcoming animated film ‘Minions & Monsters’, merging two distinct worlds.

This short trailer celebrates the forthcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the family movie, blending football with the chaotic antics of the Minions.

In the teaser, the Minions engage in a football match against a team of monsters. As the game unfolds, the monsters quickly take the lead, prompting the Minions to realize they need assistance to avoid defeat.

In a humorous twist, they attempt to summon a superstar for help. During this scene, the Minions even mention pop stars like Dua Lipa and Sabrina Carpenter as potential saviors. After a Minion named Carl casts a spell, the stadium lights flicker, leading to an unexpected turn of events.

Kylian Mbappé makes a striking entrance on the football pitch.

Mbappé, a global football icon and key player for Real Madrid and the French national team, joins forces with the Minions to turn the match around. His arrival helps the Minions regain control and ultimately secure victory against the monsters.

This cameo has quickly captured the attention of fans from both the football and animation worlds. Many viewers have responded positively to the teaser, appreciating how it connects the excitement of the upcoming World Cup with the playful spirit of the Minions franchise.

Directed by Pierre Coffin, who also lends his voice to the Minions, ‘Minions & Monsters’ is co-written by Coffin and Brian Lynch. Produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures, the film is part of the Despicable Me universe, taking place approximately 40 years before the events of ‘Minions’ (2015).

According to the studio’s official synopsis, the story follows the Minions as they attempt to create their own monster movie in Old Hollywood. Their quest for real monsters to star in their project leads to a series of chaotic and comedic situations.

The voice cast features Pierre Coffin, Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, and Trey Parker. Jeff Bridges portrays the head of a film studio, while Christoph Waltz voices a character named Max.

Illumination has confirmed that ‘Minions & Monsters’ will premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21, followed by its theatrical release in the United States on July 1.

With its blend of football excitement, humor, and animated chaos, the new teaser has already generated significant buzz online. Mbappé’s appearance adds a real-world sports connection, making this crossover even more surprising and entertaining for fans globally.
