Netflix has officially revealed when fans can step inside Willy Wonka’s iconic chocolate factory. According to TVLine and Netflix, the new competition series ‘Wonka’s The Golden Ticket’ is set to premiere on September 23, with the first seven episodes available on the streaming platform. The remaining two episodes will follow one week later on September 30.

This series draws inspiration from Roald Dahl’s classic book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,’ which also served as the foundation for the beloved 1971 film ‘Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory.’ However, this project is not a remake or scripted drama; it is a reality competition where contestants will face a series of challenges inside a recreated version of Wonka’s enchanting factory.

One of the most exciting revelations accompanying the release date is the return of Gene Wilder’s voice. Netflix has confirmed that the legendary actor’s voice has been recreated using artificial intelligence for the series. The project has been completed with the full approval of Wilder’s estate. The newly released teaser offers a glimpse of the experience, as Wilder’s recognizable voice welcomes contestants outside the famous factory gates.

“For the first time in decades, I’m opening my beloved chocolate factory,” the voice announces, cautioning that not everyone will make it through the adventure.

The competition will feature 12 teams of two entering the mysterious factory. According to Netflix’s official description, contestants will encounter a variety of games and unexpected challenges that will test them physically, mentally, and morally.

The streaming service describes the series as a social experiment, where players must adapt to unpredictable situations while demonstrating the intelligence, determination, and character needed to succeed. Ultimately, only one contestant will walk away with Wonka’s grand prize.

Additionally, Netflix has confirmed that Rusty Goffe, who portrayed one of the Oompa Loompas in the original 1971 film, will reprise his role in the new series, creating another connection to the classic.

Gene Wilder’s family has publicly supported the decision to recreate his voice. In a statement on behalf of the Gene Wilder Estate, his wife Karen B. Wilder expressed that the family believes the series honors the actor’s unforgettable performance.

“More than five decades after Gene brought Willy Wonka to life, people of all ages and backgrounds around the world continue to find joy, laughter, and inspiration in his performance,” the statement reads. She further praised the impact Wilder had on generations of fans.

“Gene had a remarkable ability to bring humor, wonder, and heart into people’s lives, and that connection has endured for generations.” Karen B. Wilder also stated that the family is pleased the new series introduces Wonka’s magic to younger audiences while respecting longtime fans.

“We are delighted that ‘Wonka’s The Golden Ticket’ celebrates the warmth and imagination that he brought to the role, introducing that magic to a new generation while honoring the fans who have cherished it for decades.”

This new competition series continues the long legacy of Roald Dahl’s famous story. Since its publication in 1964, it has inspired numerous adaptations, including the 1971 film starring Gene Wilder, Tim Burton’s 2005 version with Johnny Depp, and the 2023 musical prequel ‘Wonka,’ featuring Timothée Chalamet.

Now, Netflix is taking the story in a new direction by transforming the famous chocolate factory into a reality competition setting. With familiar locations, classic references, and Gene Wilder’s recreated voice guiding contestants through their journey, the series aims to blend nostalgia with a fresh format when it premieres this September.
