A fresh trailer has been released for Nicolas Winding Refn’s upcoming sci-fi thriller ‘Her Private Hell,’ providing audiences with another glimpse into this mysterious and visually captivating film ahead of its theatrical debut later this month.

As stated by Neon, which is distributing the film in the United States, ‘Her Private Hell’ centers on Elle, portrayed by Sophie Thatcher, who embarks on a quest to find her missing father after a peculiar mist begins enveloping her city. As the enigma unfolds, Elle finds herself trapped in a reality that grows increasingly perilous and perplexing with each step she takes.

The latest trailer emphasizes the eerie ambiance that has become a significant talking point for the film. Darkened streets, vanishing individuals, and unsettling visuals suggest that the mysterious fog is far more than just a weather phenomenon. It appears to alter reality itself, compelling Elle to question everything around her as she continues her search.

Sophie Thatcher leads the cast as Elle, joined by Charles Melton as Private K. Kristine Froseth plays Hunter, while Havana Rose Liu takes on the role of Dominique. The ensemble also features Diego Calva, Dougray Scott, Shioli Kutsuna, Aoi Yamada, Hidetoshi Nishijima, and Parker Sawyers.

This film marks Nicolas Winding Refn’s first feature since ‘The Neon Demon,’ which premiered in 2016. Since then, the director has focused on television projects like ‘Too Old to Die Young’ and ‘Copenhagen Cowboy.’ ‘Her Private Hell’ signifies his return to the big screen with another visually ambitious narrative that intertwines mystery, science fiction, and psychological suspense.

Neon officially announced production for the film in 2025. At that time, the studio described the project as “something groovy,” while revealing the film’s title and confirming Sophie Thatcher and Charles Melton as the lead stars.

Refn co-wrote the screenplay with Esti Giordani and produced the film through his production company, byNWR. Although the story was initially slated to be filmed in Tokyo with both English and Japanese dialogue, principal photography ultimately took place in Copenhagen during the summer of 2025.

Another noteworthy contributor to the production is composer Pino Donaggio, who crafted the film’s original score. This project marks the first collaboration between Donaggio and Refn.

‘Her Private Hell’ had its world premiere out of competition at the 2026 Cannes Film Festival in May. Reports from the festival indicate that the film received a 12-minute standing ovation following its initial screening, although critical responses have been mixed.

The newly released trailer showcases Refn’s signature visual style, filled with striking colors, slow-building tension, and dreamlike imagery. While many plot details remain under wraps, the preview hints that the mystery surrounding Elle’s father is intertwined with the strange mist that gradually engulfs the city and its inhabitants.

Neon has slated the film for a theatrical release across the United States on July 24, with plans for a wide rollout. International audiences will also have the opportunity to see the movie after Mubi acquired distribution rights for several regions, including the United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Spain, and Latin America.

With its haunting visuals, intriguing narrative, and performances from Sophie Thatcher, Charles Melton, and Havana Rose Liu, ‘Her Private Hell’ is poised to be one of this summer’s most distinctive sci-fi thrillers. The new trailer provides just a glimpse into its bizarre world, leaving many questions unanswered as we approach its July 24 release.
