‘The Odyssey’ Star Lupita Nyong’o Wraps Up ‘Tonight Show’ Takeover in Style
Jimmy Fallon dedicated an entire week of his late-night show to Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’, featuring a different star from the film’s impressive cast each night leading up to its theatrical premiere. The week kicked off with Tom Holland, followed by Matt Damon and Zendaya, each appearance heightening excitement for what NBC labeled a full takeover of ‘The Tonight Show’.
The promotional week concluded with Lupita Nyong’o, who graced the July 16 episode in a stunning Diotima Fall 2026 outfit styled by Micaela Erlanger. Her ensemble, which included a crystal-embellished crochet crop top and a voluminous, fringed skirt, created a sculptural silhouette that Nyong’o showcased beautifully as she danced across the studio to her seat.
This fashion moment capped off a promotional effort that critics are already calling one of the standout celebrity style showcases of the year, with some outlets placing Nyong’o alongside Meryl Streep, who shares the same stylist. This appearance also came at a pivotal time in the film’s rollout, following a wave of online criticism regarding her casting as Helen of Troy.
After the fashion discussion, the interview provided fans with insight into how Nyong’o crafted her performance. During her chat with Jimmy Fallon, she disclosed that she plays two distinct roles in ‘The Odyssey’, portraying both Helen of Troy and Clytemnestra, a dual casting choice that had not been widely publicized prior to her appearance.
Nyong’o also highlighted a collaborative dynamic with Nolan while developing her performances, noting that the director allowed her significant creative input in shaping her scenes. She described the experience as akin to co-directing her own material, a level of involvement she indicated is not typical in her other projects.
In addition to discussing the film, Nyong’o utilized the platform to promote her Make Fibroids Count campaign, aimed at raising awareness about fibroids and advocating for greater recognition of the condition as a serious women’s health issue. The segment ended on a lighter note, with Fallon and Nyong’o participating in a Greek mythology-themed game related to the film’s ancient source material.
Nyong’o’s appearance rounded out a bustling week for ‘The Odyssey’ on Fallon’s stage, and NBC has confirmed that the celebration is far from over. Travis Scott, who portrays the bard Demodocus in the film, is scheduled to appear the following Tuesday, followed by John Leguizamo on Wednesday and Nolan himself concluding the extended press push the following Thursday.

For a film boasting such a large cast and an ambitious marketing rollout, dedicating an entire week of late-night programming to a single title is a rare move for any network.
Given the enthusiastic reception to each night’s guest, including Nyong’o’s now-viral fashion moment, the strategy seems to be paying off as intended.
