Apple TV Achieves Record Wins at Creative Arts Emmys with ‘Widow’s Bay’ Leading
Streaming platforms have long competed for supremacy during awards season, but this year’s Creative Arts Emmys showcased a standout performance from Apple TV. The platform emerged from the first two nights of the ceremony with results that left every other network and streamer trailing behind.
Entering this year’s Emmys cycle with significant momentum, Apple TV secured a record 89 nominations across 15 different programs, the highest of any network or streamer this season. This impressive nomination count included leading positions in both the Best Drama and Best Comedy categories, setting the stage for a strong showing at the Creative Arts ceremony.
That momentum translated into remarkable results. Apple TV concluded the weekend with a record 20 wins across the two Creative Arts ceremonies, as reported by the platform’s official announcement, surpassing every other network, including HBO Max and Netflix, in overall awards heading into the main Primetime broadcast.
The breakout horror-comedy ‘Widow’s Bay’ spearheaded this success, securing eight Emmys, more than any other program at either ceremony. The show’s accolades included Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for Betty Gilpin, along with wins in casting, cinematography, production design, music composition, music supervision, and both sound editing and sound mixing categories.
Gilpin’s win marked her first career Emmy, awarded for her portrayal of 18th-century character Sarah Westcott Warren in the flashback episode “Our History.” This victory added an emotional narrative to a show that excelled in technical and craft categories throughout the weekend.
Apple’s triumph extended beyond just ‘Widow’s Bay.’ Vince Gilligan’s drama ‘Pluribus’ garnered four wins, while both ‘Margo’s Got Money Troubles’ and ‘Palm Royale’ took home three trophies each. The documentary series ‘Mr. Scorsese’ rounded out the platform’s achievements with a win for Outstanding Documentary or Nonfiction Series.
With a total of 19 wins across Apple TV’s individual programs, plus an additional award for the company’s “I’m Not Remarkable” commercial, the streamer reached an impressive count of 20 for the weekend. HBO Max followed in second place with 16 wins, while Netflix secured 13, giving Apple a commanding lead heading into the final ceremony.

‘Widow’s Bay’ still has ample opportunity to expand its trophy collection. The show remains eligible in six categories at the main Primetime ceremony, including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for star Matthew Rhys, along with supporting acting, writing, and directing honors still to be awarded.
Industry expectations indicate that Apple is poised to excel in comedy categories at the main event, despite facing tougher competition in drama from shows like ‘The Pitt.’ This sets up an intriguing dynamic heading into the final ceremony, where Apple’s strength in comedy could be countered by the drama prowess of other networks.
The 78th Primetime Emmy Awards are scheduled to air on September 14, concluding the season’s final round of major categories. With Apple TV already achieving its best-ever Emmy weekend performance, all eyes will be on whether ‘Widow’s Bay’ and the rest of the platform’s lineup can convert that early momentum into wins in the ceremony’s most prestigious categories.
