‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ is receiving a largely positive reception from critics ahead of its theatrical debut, currently boasting an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 11 reviews.

The animated sequel is set to premiere in theaters on Aug. 14, taking the beloved pups on a grand adventure. This time, they find themselves on a mysterious island teeming with dinosaurs after their ship encounters a storm.

While the film primarily targets younger audiences and families, early critiques indicate that some reviewers have discovered more to appreciate beyond the vibrant animation and dinosaur escapades.

Numerous critics have commended the film for blending humor, heart, and straightforward lessons about teamwork and growing up.

M.N. Miller from FandomWire rated the film 7/10, describing it as a delightful and emotional journey. Miller highlighted the movie’s visual appeal while conveying a positive message to young viewers.

He noted that ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ is “fun, empathetic, and visually appealing”, emphasizing the importance of perseverance. Tessa Smith from Mama’s Geeky also praised the family-friendly nature of the film, giving it a fresh score and applauding its blend of comedy and emotion.

“Packed with heart, laughs, and stunning visuals, it’s a roaring success for the whole family,” Smith remarked.

Carla Hay from Culture Mix also provided a favorable review, calling it an entertaining animated sequel and highlighting some new characters and story elements as standout features.

Hay remarked that the movie is “better than the worst Jurassic Park movies” while praising its dinosaur-laden backdrop. She also noted memorable moments, such as the introduction of a baby T-Rex and a dog in a wheelchair.

Courtney Howard from Fresh Fiction awarded the film a B+ and appreciated how the story continues to develop the characters and their backgrounds.

Howard expressed hope for future adventures, praising the film’s message about overcoming challenges as a team.

“We can only hope for continuing adventures to transpire to learn more of the individual backstories of these canine avengers and the virtues of overcoming difficulties as a community,” Howard noted.

However, not all critics were impressed. William Bibbiani from TheWrap gave the film a Rotten score, expressing a more critical view of its execution.

Bibbiani likened the film to the type of children’s entertainment envisioned in the dystopian world of RoboCop, suggesting that its style and commercial aspects did not resonate with him.

Nevertheless, the overall early feedback remains positive, with four reviews currently highlighted by Rotten Tomatoes awarding the movie a Fresh score.

The plot follows the PAW Patrol pups as they crash-land on an island inhabited by dinosaurs. They soon encounter Rex, another pup who has been stranded there for years and knows the island intimately. Their adventure intensifies when Mayor Humdinger begins mining the island’s resources, inadvertently awakening a dormant volcano.

For families in search of a new animated film this summer, early reviews suggest that ‘Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie’ could be a great option. With an 82% score on Rotten Tomatoes thus far, critics seem to appreciate its combination of humor, adventure, vibrant animation, and uplifting messages, despite some differing opinions on the film’s overall appeal.
