Tom Holland’s fourth solo adventure as Spider-Man has been rewriting box office history for the past three weeks, with records continuing to tumble since its opening weekend. What began as the largest domestic debut of all time has quickly turned into one of the fastest theatrical runs in film history, leaving industry analysts scrambling to keep up with each new achievement.

The film kicked off with a record-breaking $360 million domestic opening and an impressive $932 million global debut, marking the second-largest worldwide opening ever, just behind ‘Avengers: Endgame.’ Following that, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ crossed the billion-dollar threshold in just six days, making it the second-fastest film to reach that milestone in box office history, while also setting records for the quickest $500 million and $700 million domestic totals.

This remarkable trajectory has now placed the film in one of cinema’s most exclusive clubs. According to box office tracking, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ achieved $2 billion worldwide in just 19 days, making it the second-fastest film to hit that mark, only behind ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ which accomplished it in 11 days in 2019. This achievement positions Holland’s Spider-Man ahead of ‘Ne Zha 2,’ which took 33 days, and both ‘Avatar’ films, which needed 39 and 47 days respectively to reach the same milestone.

Only eight films in cinematic history have ever surpassed $2 billion at the global box office, including ‘Avatar,’ ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ ‘Avatar: The Way of Water,’ ‘Titanic,’ ‘Ne Zha 2,’ ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens,’ and ‘Avengers: Infinity War.’ ‘Brand New Day’ now joins this elite group as one of the fastest to arrive, trailing only Endgame’s unprecedented pace.

What makes the film’s box office success particularly noteworthy is that it’s the fourth entry in Holland’s Spider-Man series, a stage where many franchises typically experience box office fatigue. Instead, ‘Brand New Day’ has outperformed its predecessor, ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home,’ which concluded its theatrical run at $1.92 billion without ever screening in China. Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige told Variety that he never expected Endgame’s domestic opening record to be surpassed, but he couldn’t be happier that it happened with the studio’s 38th MCU movie.

The film’s performance in China has significantly contributed to this success, with the country delivering the film’s largest overseas opening at $121 million. This kind of international strength, combined with positive domestic word of mouth, has enabled the film to continue rising well beyond where most sequels of its scale typically plateau.

With ‘Brand New Day’ now firmly among the highest-grossing films of all time, speculation is mounting regarding whether Holland will return for future MCU appearances, including potential cameos in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ later this year or ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in 2027. While neither Holland nor Marvel has confirmed these plans, Holland has previously mentioned having a clear vision for eventually passing the character on to another actor.

For now, ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ remains in theaters and continues to climb, raising the question of just how much higher its final global total might reach. With minimal direct competition for the rest of the summer, box office analysts have not ruled out the possibility of the film eventually targeting even higher benchmarks before its theatrical run concludes.
