As the anticipation builds for ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘, fans are eagerly sifting through every piece of information available, making cast interviews a treasure trove of potential spoilers. With Robert Downey Jr. transitioning from Tony Stark to the role of Doctor Doom, any hint regarding the connection between these two characters has become highly significant.

David Harbour, who is set to reprise his role as Alexei Shostakov, also known as Red Guardian, has been particularly vocal about his return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. During recent promotional tours, he has shared intriguing snippets about what audiences can expect from this expansive ensemble film, which is scheduled to hit theaters this December.

Harbour has now provided his most revealing tease yet. When asked to recite a line from ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ without context, he channeled his character, delivering a deadpan response in a Russian accent: “You… are Tony Stark.”

This moment arose during a broad conversation with Variety, where Harbour was pressed for details about the upcoming MCU installment. He delivered the line while maintaining Alexei’s signature deadpan style, a hallmark of his character from previous appearances in ‘Black Widow’ and ‘Thunderbolts.’

On the surface, this line implies that Red Guardian may encounter Doom and immediately recognize his resemblance to the late Avenger. This could represent a pivotal narrative moment, especially considering how closely Marvel has guarded the connection between Victor Von Doom and Tony Stark’s legacy since Downey’s casting was first announced.

Speculation surrounding a Stark-Doom connection has been brewing for over a year. Much of the theorizing has revolved around whether Doom might be a multiversal variant of Stark, although this idea has reportedly been retracted by those close to the production, confirming Doom as the authentic Victor Von Doom rather than a Stark substitute.

However, Harbour’s line does little to clarify the situation. It’s entirely plausible that the moment is a playful nod rather than a concrete plot revelation, especially given Harbour’s history of playful misdirection when asked about spoilers. Notably, Red Guardian does not share a history with Stark like original Avengers such as Steve Rogers or Bruce Banner, making his reaction line even more intriguing if it makes the final cut.

Harbour’s tease comes alongside a steady stream of casting confirmations for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ The film features a vast array of MCU veterans, including Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, Paul Rudd’s Ant-Man, and Florence Pugh’s Yelena Belova, along with Harbour’s fellow “New Avengers” like Wyatt Russell, Hannah John-Kamen, and Lewis Pullman.

Additionally, major legacy characters return, with Patrick Stewart, Ian McKellen, and Rebecca Romijn reprising their roles as X-Men icons, while Vanessa Kirby, Joseph Quinn, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach represent the Fantastic Four. This extensive cast makes ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ one of the most anticipated crossover events in the franchise’s history, with Downey Jr.’s dual legacy as both Stark and Doom at its core.

Harbour has previously hinted at other production details without revealing specifics, mentioning a scene alongside Pugh that features a beloved Marvel character performing a long-awaited iconic moment. While he has kept the exact scene under wraps, his comments highlight the nostalgia and payoff this film is expected to deliver for dedicated fans.

Whether “You… are Tony Stark” turns out to be a mere gag or a significant plot point remains to be seen. Regardless, it’s the kind of loose-lipped tease that keeps fans buzzing in the lead-up to a major Marvel release, and Harbour seems more than willing to keep the speculation alive.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to premiere in theaters this December, concluding the Multiverse Saga with what promises to be one of the MCU’s largest ensemble films yet.
