First Look at Josh Keaton as Eddie Brock in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’
Marvel Animation has been diligently reconstructing its segment of the MCU, one Disney+ series at a time, and ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ has emerged as one of the studio’s most anticipated projects. The first season focused on Peter Parker’s early days as a hero, opting for a more intimate approach that harkens back to the character’s comic-book origins.
This strategy proved successful, paving the way for a second season filled with iconic villains from Spidey’s extensive rogues’ gallery. Excitement has surged since D23 footage hinted at a symbiote suit, a showdown with Doctor Octopus, and the return of Charlie Cox’s Daredevil.
Fans now have their first official glimpse of one of the season’s most pivotal new characters. Eddie Brock, who will eventually become the host of the Venom symbiote, is officially introduced, and he will be voiced by Josh Keaton, a well-known name among Spider-Man enthusiasts.
Keaton is no stranger to this part of the Marvel universe. He originally voiced Peter Parker in ‘The Spectacular Spider-Man,’ the beloved 2008 animated series that was canceled after just two seasons due to IP disputes between Sony and Disney. He has since reprised that version of the character in various video games, including a surprise appearance in ‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.’
Interestingly, this isn’t Keaton’s first role in ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man.’ He voiced Richard Parker, Peter’s presumed-dead father, in the season one finale, revealing that the elder Parker was alive and imprisoned rather than having died in a plane crash, as is common in most comic continuities.
Eddie Brock’s introduction brings a unique twist to established lore. Instead of working for the Daily Globe as he does in the comics, this version of Brock is a reporter for the Daily Bugle, a change that likely ties him more closely to Spider-Man’s next significant heroic arc. This minor alteration helps integrate the character into the show’s existing supporting cast.
Footage from season two has already confirmed that Brock encounters Harry Osborn while covering a story, only for Doctor Octopus to disrupt the scene and kidnap Harry during a gala. This sequence, along with earlier hints of Peter being enveloped by symbiote goo, strongly indicates that the show is gearing up for the classic Brock-Venom transformation that has defined the character across decades of Spider-Man media.

Showrunner Jeff Trammell has expressed his desire for season two to build on the foundation laid in the first season. Discussing the importance of casting Keaton as Richard Parker, Trammell shared with Cinemablend that securing the actor was significant from the early planning stages, stating that getting him for the role “meant a lot to me.”
This sentiment now extends to Brock’s casting, uniting two generations of Spider-Man voice talent under one animated project. For long-time fans, hearing Keaton’s voice associated with Venom’s future host adds an extra layer of nostalgia to a character deeply rooted in comic book history.
The series has also confirmed a shift in Peter’s origin story that impacts how Venom will likely come into play. Season one revealed that the spider that bit Peter was created using his own blood in a time loop, following a battle between Doctor Strange and a Venom-like creature from another dimension, leaving behind a fragment of that symbiote at the end of the finale.
That lingering fragment seems to be the catalyst for everything unfolding in season two, from the suit’s formation around Peter to Brock’s eventual transformation. Marvel has yet to announce a premiere date, only confirming that the show will return in January 2027, delayed from its originally anticipated 2026 launch.
With Doc Ock, Rhino, the Lizard, Spider-Gwen, and Daredevil all confirmed to appear in the new episodes, ‘Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man’ Season 2 is shaping up to be a rich, villain-heavy expansion of Peter’s universe. Eddie Brock’s introduction, especially with Keaton lending his voice, stands out as one of the season’s most significant additions.
