DC Studios has kept its rebooted ‘Wonder Woman‘ film under wraps for months, providing fans with little more than occasional casting rumors since the project was confirmed to be moving forward. This lack of information has left fans eager for any credible update on Diana Prince’s next cinematic chapter.

However, this week marked a change, though not through an official studio announcement. ‘Lanterns’ co-creator Tom King, who has held various behind-the-scenes roles at DC Studios, addressed the project directly in a recent interview with Inverse, offering the clearest insight into ‘Wonder Woman’ that fans have seen in over a year.

When asked about his involvement with the film, King discussed his evolving role within the studio before focusing on the project itself. “For a while I had a job where I was a consultant — like a nerd consultant — so I worked on a lot of different sort of [DC] projects. But between Lanterns and Mister Miracle… I’m not involved in Wonder Woman except to say I hope it’s going to be utterly brilliant. I hope the people who are building it stay true to who that character is, because she’s just one of the greatest heroines ever created,” King shared with Inverse.

This comment provides a rare, albeit modest, insight into how insiders at DC Studios view the project, even from someone not directly involved in its development. King’s previous consulting work reportedly spanned various aspects of the studio’s slate, and he was part of the initial writers’ room when the DCU was first being established, alongside notable names like Jeremy Slater, Drew Goddard, Crystal Henry, and Christina Hodson.

The screenplay for the film is currently being penned by Ana Nogueira, who transitioned from acting roles in “The Michael J. Fox Show” and “The Vampire Diaries” to screenwriting. According to Toms Guide, Nogueira is also set to write a live-action “Supergirl” screenplay for the studio, adapted from the graphic novel “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow,” making her one of DC’s go-to writers under the leadership of James Gunn and Peter Safran.

Rebooting ‘Wonder Woman’ has been labeled a top priority for the studio, with Variety reporting last year that DC was actively fast-tracking the film’s development. Gunn himself confirmed in June that a new “Wonder Woman” movie was “being written right now,” although specific details regarding casting, tone, or release timing have remained elusive since that initial announcement.

Additionally, DC Studios is reportedly developing a “Paradise Island” television series for HBO, set on Wonder Woman’s home of Themyscira. This suggests that the character’s presence in the rebooted universe could extend beyond a single feature film, adding another layer of anticipation for how thoroughly the studio plans to reintroduce Diana Prince’s world to audiences.

Gal Gadot previously portrayed the character across multiple films, starting with Patty Jenkins’ 2017 “Wonder Woman,” which grossed $822 million worldwide and helped challenge long-standing industry skepticism about whether female-led superhero films could achieve significant box office success. Gadot reprised the role in “Wonder Woman 1984,” “Justice League,” “Zack Snyder’s Justice League,” and “The Flash,” although her future involvement in the rebooted DCU remains unclear.

With King’s comments marking the first substantial public acknowledgment of the project in well over a year, fans finally have something concrete to hold onto, even if the update leans more towards well-wishing than hard details. Given the weight of this reboot following the character’s beloved cinematic legacy, expectations for Nogueira’s script are already soaring before any plot details have been confirmed.
