‘Hannah Montana’ Star Miley Cyrus Honors Godmother Dolly Parton: ‘I Have an Angel by My Side’
Miley Cyrus is grieving the loss of her godmother and longtime mentor Dolly Parton, who passed away on Tuesday at the age of 80 after what her family described as a brief battle with cancer. Cyrus took to social media to share a heartfelt tribute, reflecting on their deep bond both on and off the screen.
“The feeling of losing my Aunt Dolly is beyond what feels right to share,” Cyrus expressed. “Our most sacred moments were private and they’ll stay there behind the stage, beneath the glamour & between our hearts.”
Cyrus elaborated on how she intends to cope with the loss in a way that would honor Parton’s legacy. “What I KNOW is Dolly would want me to feel it, write a song about it, and then continue on and be strong,” she stated. “I have an angel by my side. I always have. One of our last conversations was about music and metamorphosis.”
She concluded her tribute with a promise to carry Parton’s memory forward. “I will always love her and want to make her proud,” Cyrus shared. “My heart breaks for the world, her family and friends who will miss her deeply. We’re in this loss together and we will see her in all of the most beautiful things.”
Cyrus and Parton’s relationship began in Cyrus’s childhood when Parton portrayed her on-screen aunt on the Disney Channel series ‘Hannah Montana.’ This role blossomed into a genuine godmother relationship and creative partnership that lasted throughout Cyrus’s career. Parton’s passing has prompted tributes from across the entertainment world, with Cyrus’s message standing out as one of the most personal, showcasing a bond that has flourished for over a decade both in front of the camera and behind the scenes.
