The latest recap of ‘American Horror Story: 13’ arrives as the franchise experiences its most significant streaming surge in years. The season premiered on September 24, and TheWrap reports that it garnered over 4 million global views within its first four days. This makes it Ryan Murphy’s most successful streaming launch to date on Hulu and Disney+.

The premiere saw a 50% increase compared to ‘Delicate’ and nearly doubled the viewership of ‘NYC’ and ‘Double Feature’. Fans are tuning in for the crossover chaos, which follows Ben (Joey Pollari), a plane crash survivor haunted by the number 13, under the care of Constance (Jessica Lange). Below the Apollyon building, a portal to hell continues to churn.

The latest episodes transformed the slow burn into a raging fire. A satanic ritual, a mysterious brand on Ben’s body, and a Devil’s Night ambush all converge, culminating in Cordelia Goode (Sarah Paulson) seemingly dead on the floor of Miss Robichaux’s Academy. Here’s how it all unfolded.

“Is That All There Is?” begins with Ben waking to find Mr. Nas, who force-feeds him black goo from an ornate chalice and appears in a younger, blonder form (Paul Anthony Kelly). Downstairs, Elsa Mars (Lange) performs Peggy Lee’s 1969 hit with her old ‘Freak Show’ band, featuring Mat Fraser as Paul the Illustrated Seal.

Wilhelmina Venable (Paulson) then has Elsa announce the women being sacrificed in a fiery pit. The list includes Hypodermic Sally, Eva Braun, Wallis Simpson, Ayn Rand, Brigitte Bardot, Catherine the Great, Mamie Eisenhower, Elena Ceaușescu, Jezebel, Tuberculosis Karen, Margaret Thatcher, and Elizabeth Short (Mena Suvari). With the count one short, Venable throws herself in as the 13th sacrifice.

The next morning, Constance and Mr. Phibes (John Waters) fill in the details. Satan allowed his son, Mr. Nas, to drink from the chalice and demanded more sacrifices for the occasion. Constance reveals that as Nas’ favorite sinner, she was given the chance to be a mother again, and a kiss sealed the deal. Her soul now belongs to him, and Tate and Addie have returned from the dead.

Phibes also checks Nas’ biomarkers and notes he is just four points shy of his awakening goal of 100. This indicates that a new dawn is approaching, and more sacrifices are likely on the horizon.

“Date Night” shifts to Ben’s apartment, where Ashley (Elle Chapman), another plane crash survivor, joins him for dinner. She reveals this isn’t her first encounter with death. At a family wedding in May 2020 in New Jersey, Piggy Man, the killer from ‘Roanoke’, murdered 13 people while she managed to escape.

The two bond over their shared fear of the number 13, with Ben sharing that he was born on Friday the 13th and that his mother died during childbirth. He mentions being raised by people who seemed to worship him before ending up in foster care. After they sleep together, Ashley discovers “616” branded on his lower back. Chapman has stated she couldn’t reveal any hints about its significance.

“The Return of Devil’s Night” begins with James March (Evan Peters) picking up Jeffrey Dahmer (Seth Gabel) in a self-driving Waymo. They marvel at the technology of 2026 while gathering the Cortez Devils, which also includes Richard Ramirez (Zach Villa).

At the academy, Cordelia grows increasingly alarmed by how rapidly her young witches are developing new powers, particularly Morwenna (Alex Consani), who brings a dead amphibian back to life. She even throws Morwenna against the ceiling, reminiscent of a similar move by Fiona in ‘Coven’. Cordelia starts to question whether she needs to adopt her mother’s methods to protect the coven.

The coven, now 13 strong, uses a spirit board to summon Fiona, and the pointer moves. Cordelia sends everyone upstairs to confront her mother alone, but the visitor turns out to be March. With his killers behind him and Ophelia (Avantika) distracting her, Cordelia is struck with a scythe to the back of the head and collapses.

TVLine predicts that Cordelia will spend time in limbo, possibly allowing for a face-to-face reunion with Fiona before she rises again, stronger than before. The episode also leaves the other 12 witches vulnerable to the Cortez Devils, raising the stakes for Morwenna and the rest.
