A Documentary About Technoblade’s Life and Legacy Is Officially in Production
Gaming culture has seen its share of iconic figures, but few have made as profound an impact as one particular Minecraft creator whose legacy continues to inspire fans long after his passing. His influence has expanded beyond the platforms where he initially garnered his following.
This creator was Technoblade, a Minecraft content creator celebrated for his sharp wit, competitive prowess, and an unwavering bond with his millions of fans. His journey took a heartbreaking turn in 2021 when he disclosed a cancer diagnosis to his audience, yet he maintained communication with his fans throughout his treatment, showcasing the same resilience and humor that characterized his career.
Now, his remarkable story is set to be told on the big screen. A new documentary titled ‘Technoblade Never Dies’ is officially in production, with funding from Riot Games and Hypixel Studios, both of which have pledged to donate their profits from the film to charity, as reported by Variety.
The documentary takes its name from one of Technoblade’s own catchphrases and is being produced with the full support of his family. Candle Media’s Candle True Stories is overseeing production, a studio known for projects like Netflix’s ‘Untold: The Liver King’ and two Paramount+ series, ‘Wild Boys: Strangers In Town’ and ‘The Carters.’
According to Candle True Stories, the aim of the project is to create “an independent feature documentary to bring Technoblade’s story and community to audiences around the world.” While the film has just begun production and does not yet have a confirmed release date, producers plan to premiere it at a major film festival before pursuing a theatrical release and wider distribution, with a distribution deal still pending.
Hypixel Studios, one of the film’s financial backers, was established by the team behind Hypixel, recognized as the largest Minecraft server globally, providing a direct link to the community that played a significant role in Technoblade’s career.
Technoblade began his Minecraft content creation journey as a teenager, aiming to reach 10 million YouTube subscribers, a goal he achieved in late 2021, just months before his untimely death. Following his passing in June 2022 at the age of 23, his father shared his final message with fans, a video titled ‘so long nerds,’ which revealed his son’s first name, Alex, publicly for the first time while the family chose to keep the rest of their identity private.
That video became one of the most-watched pieces of content on YouTube that year, and the phrase “Technoblade never dies” has since transformed into a lasting tribute echoed throughout the gaming community. His influence continues to appear in unexpected ways, including a tribute to his iconic crowned-pig avatar in 2025’s ‘A Minecraft Movie.’
Technoblade’s YouTube channel remains active today with nearly 23 million subscribers, showcasing how deeply his content resonates with fans even years after his death. His story of humor and resilience in the face of illness has evidently made a significant enough impact to merit this full-scale documentary treatment.
With production officially underway and major gaming companies supporting the project financially, ‘Technoblade Never Dies’ is poised to become a heartfelt tribute to a creator whose community has never ceased to honor his memory.
