Ira Parker, the showrunner of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, has unveiled exciting details about season 2, hinting at new characters and a significant tonal shift in Ser Duncan the Tall’s narrative.

The HBO series, based on George R. R. Martin’s Dunk and Egg novellas, follows Ser Duncan the Tall (played by Peter Claffey) and his young squire Egg (Dexter Sol Ansell), who is now revealed to be Prince Aegon V Targaryen. Season 2 will adapt The Sworn Sword and introduce new political complexities into their journey.

In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Parker discussed the upcoming season, noting that production has faced delays due to heavy rainfall and flooding in the Canary Islands, where filming takes place. He explained that these weather disruptions have hindered filming and required the team to adapt their plans.

Despite these challenges, Parker emphasized the introduction of new characters who will influence the story’s next chapter. Lucy Boynton joins the cast as Lady Rohanne Webber, a formidable noblewoman known as the “Red Widow,” while Babou Ceesay will portray Ser Bennis of the Brown Shield. Additionally, Peter Mullan will appear as Ser Eustace Osgrey, the head of House Osgrey.

Parker described Lady Rohanne as a pivotal character in the new season, particularly in how she impacts Dunk’s journey. He stated, “She has a way of making Dunk uncomfortable, which is very good for us. Some of our other characters on season 1 did that very well, and that’s what we need from the Red Widow for a variety of reasons.”

He further elaborated on the story’s broader direction, saying, “This is essentially Dunk wading into politics.” According to Parker, while Dunk excels in combat and survival, he is much less equipped for the social and political maneuvers of the nobility, which will now take center stage in the narrative.

Parker praised Lucy Boynton’s casting, highlighting her strong and distinctive presence in the role. He also expressed enthusiasm for Babou Ceesay’s character, noting that Ser Bennis will serve as an important foil to both Dunk and Egg.

Despite the production delays, Parker assured that the team is determined to proceed and deliver the next season as planned. He mentioned that while waiting for better weather, they are adjusting schedules to continue filming.

Season 2 of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is set to further expand the world of Westeros, introducing new alliances, conflicts, and political tensions, with Dunk now navigating a far more perilous game than mere swordplay.
