The late Akira Toriyama is one of the greatest mangaka of all time. And while he will be remembered for his work on Dragon Ball, Toriyama created other series as well and one of them is the one-volume manga SAND LAND, which was originally released in 2000.

Featuring Toriyama’s characteristic style, SAND LAND has become a cult classic story that has since been adapted as a movie, game, and an ONA series. The ONA series was originally released exclusively via Disney+, but things are going to change later this year.

Namely, it has been confirmed that the series will be broadcast on Japanese television for the first time this year and we have all the details.

The anime originally appeared about a year ago on Disney+ and the ONA series is composed of 13 episodes, which have been well received by fans and critics, further establishing the series as a cult classic.

But, while it became a streaming hit, the series has never been aired on Japanese television, which is very unusual for an anime series. Now, this is going to change, as we can confirm that NHK General will broadcast the series starting on June 28, 2025. The show will air every Saturday at 11:45.

The series features the voices of Chō as Thief, Kazuhiro Yamaji as Rao, Mutsumi Tamura as Beelzebub, Akio Ōtsuka as Satan, Ayumu Murase as Muniel, Chafūrin as King of Sandland, Hiroyuki Yoshino as Swimmers Shark, Kōji Yusa as Swimmers Pike, Masafumi Kobatake as Swimmers Guppy, Mikako Komatsu as Anne, Nobuo Tobita as Supreme Commander Zeu, Satoshi Tsuruoka as General Are, Tesshō Genda as Supreme Commander Bred, Tomokazu Sugita as Swimmers Papa, and Yōji Ueda as Lango.

The official synopsis reveals the following details:

In the far future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren wasteland where the supply of water is controlled by the greedy king. In search of a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of the demons for help…and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together the unlikely trio sets off across the desert, facing dragons, bandits and the deadliest foe of all… the King’s army itself! It’s travel adventure and tank action in this new story from Akira Toriyama, the creator of Dragon Ball Z!
