More than ten years after his tenure as the web-slinger officially concluded, Andrew Garfield still finds himself facing inquiries about a third ‘Amazing Spider-Man’ film. What began as a beloved yet commercially inconsistent franchise has gained a peculiar second life online, with fans persistently advocating for a sequel that was never produced.

This ongoing interest has turned Garfield into a good sport regarding the topic over the years, addressing the same recurring question in numerous interviews and public appearances. Instead of growing tired of it, the actor has engaged thoughtfully each time, even providing fans with a genuine insight into how he personally processes the idea.

In a recent conversation, Garfield shared his thoughts on the possibility of returning to the role when the subject arises. “Like, I honestly, it’s something that I do in my idle moments, go, ‘Oh, what could that be like,’ you know,” Garfield explained, as reported by ThePlaylist. He elaborated on this mindset, admitting he enters a kind of imaginative space, contemplating what such a film might look like, whether it would be fun, healing, or joyful, although he acknowledged he hasn’t reached any definitive conclusions.

Garfield concluded his reflection with a line that has since gained traction online: “But I’m sure that if it’s meant to be, it’ll be.” This sentiment marked a notably different tone compared to some of his earlier, more definitive rejections regarding the subject.

Garfield’s candidness this time contrasts with his comments from last October, when he firmly dismissed the ongoing ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ campaign, stating clearly that it wasn’t happening and that he didn’t believe it ever would, while expressing gratitude to fans for their enthusiasm.

At times, Garfield has left the door ajar under very specific conditions. He previously told Esquire that he would return “100 per cent” if the project felt genuinely additive to the culture, centered around a concept that hadn’t been explored before and felt unique enough for him to engage with.

This complex relationship with the role stems from how emotionally challenging his original run as Spider-Man was. In a 2022 Actors on Actors conversation with Zendaya, Garfield described the experience as leaving him “heartbroken,” reflecting on how unprepared he felt taking on the role in his mid-twenties.

Despite the mixed critical reception of ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ and the franchise’s eventual cancellation, Garfield’s portrayal of Peter Parker has continued to cultivate a dedicated following over the years. His brief but emotionally impactful return in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ reignited fan enthusiasm, providing the character with a proper send-off that the original franchise never achieved.

This combination of unfinished business and genuine fan affection likely explains why the ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3’ question keeps resurfacing, regardless of how many times Garfield addresses it. For now, his latest remarks suggest that the actor hasn’t entirely closed the door, even if he is cautious not to make any concrete promises.

Whether Garfield’s idle musings ever materialize into a real project remains uncertain, but for a fanbase that has spent years yearning for closure, his latest comments provide just enough openness to keep the conversation alive.
