‘Animals’ Star Ben Affleck Wishes Kevin Feige Would Call About Daredevil Return
The multiverse has transformed nearly every classic Marvel hero into a potential comeback story. Fans have long speculated about which actors might don their old suits again, and few names are mentioned more frequently than Ben Affleck. His portrayal of Matt Murdock remains one of the most discussed superhero performances from the early 2000s.
Affleck starred in the 2003 film ‘Daredevil,’ directed by Mark Steven Johnson, alongside Jennifer Garner as Elektra and Michael Clarke Duncan as the Kingpin. The film faced criticism upon its release, and Affleck has openly acknowledged its flaws. He has noted that while the story had promise, it came out before Kevin Feige took the reins at Marvel.
This context is what makes his recent comments particularly intriguing. During an interview with Josh Horowitz, when asked if Feige had reached out about a potential return as Daredevil in the MCU, Affleck’s response was both brief and revealing. He stated that Feige hasn’t contacted him, and he expressed a desire that he would.
Though short, his reply conveys a lot. Over the years, Affleck’s public remarks about the character have been lighthearted and self-aware, often praising Marvel’s achievements. Now, he is clearly indicating that he would welcome the opportunity to return.
This sentiment aligns with his previous comments. Affleck has referred to Feige as one of the most successful producers of all time, crediting him with bringing clarity and purpose to Marvel’s storytelling. Feige was a co-producer on the 2003 film, although his influence was minimal at that time.
Currently, the MCU has its own Daredevil, with Charlie Cox reprising his role as Matt Murdock in ‘Daredevil: Born Again,’ which debuted in March 2025 and aired a second season from March to May 2026. Critics noted that the second season showed improvement, despite a reported drop in viewership to about half of the first.
Season three is already in the works, and Marvel has confirmed that Cox’s Daredevil will make another appearance later this year. Cox has also mentioned that a crossover with Affleck’s version in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ would be exciting, though there are currently no plans for such a meeting.
Affleck has expressed support for his successor. While promoting ‘The Accountant 2,’ he admitted he hadn’t yet seen ‘Born Again’ but expressed his love for the character and wished Cox the best. He even joked about not wanting to face off against Jon Bernthal’s Punisher.
Rumors regarding Affleck and Marvel have circulated for years. In late 2022, an insider claimed he was in discussions to join the MCU in an unspecified role, with other reports suggesting Marvel had previously approached him about a Daredevil cameo. However, none of these claims were ever substantiated.
Affleck’s relationship with the superhero genre has been complex. He later portrayed Batman in several DC films and has discussed the toll that experience took on him. This history makes his openness to a Marvel return particularly noteworthy, even if it remains a mere wish for now.

The timing could work in favor of fans. Marvel’s multiverse storyline is building towards ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ on December 18, followed by ‘Secret Wars,’ and the studio has been creatively reintroducing legacy heroes. A crossover featuring both Daredevils would align perfectly with this approach.
It would also provide a sense of poetic justice. Affleck’s film was often viewed as a misstep, and a cameo in the MCU could offer a form of redemption for that version of the character. For many fans, it would serve as a nostalgic tribute to an earlier era of superhero films.
As of now, nothing is confirmed, and Affleck’s comments reflect interest rather than a formal agreement. Nevertheless, it is the clearest indication yet that he would accept an offer if Marvel were to extend one. Whether Feige will make that call remains uncertain.
