Apple Still Didnt Confirm Season 2 of Imperfect Women But the Star Hopes So

The debut of ‘Imperfect Women’ on Apple TV+ has united two of television’s most powerful talents: Kerry Washington and Elisabeth Moss. Adapted from the compelling psychological thriller by Araminta Hall, the series has drawn in viewers with its honest portrayal of female friendship, hidden truths, and the complexities of being “imperfect.”

As the first season progresses, fans are already pondering the crucial question: Is this a standalone limited series, or do these characters have more to explore? Although the show was initially marketed as a limited series, both the stars and executive producers are suggesting that the narrative may not be finished.

Currently, Apple TV+ has not officially announced a second season. However, the creative team has deliberately left room for continuation. In an interview with TV Insider, Elisabeth Moss shared that the ambiguous nature of the finale was a purposeful decision meant to keep the audience intrigued.

“We want you to be asking what’s going on there,” Moss stated. “What we settled on and really wanted was to raise the question: What is going on there? But not answer it. So there is not an answer right now. We would need a Season 2 to tell you.”

Should the series return, the focus would likely shift from the central mystery of the original book to the evolving, intricate relationship between the lead characters. Kerry Washington emphasized that while the characters may be heading in different directions, their bond remains the essence of the show.

“If we ever had the opportunity to continue to explore it and answer that question, I think it’s a really great question,” Washington said. “I think what’s really nice is that it doesn’t feel like they’ve cut ties. Their friendship is not over, but it does feel like they are able to have a bit more space and sort of get comfortable in separate families and separate communities. But that doesn’t mean that they’re still not family to each other. Sometimes you have to expand your world a little bit.”

Both actresses concurred that there’s “so much more to explore” and expressed their enjoyment of working together. The logistics of reuniting the full cast for a sequel are already being discussed; Moss humorously remarked, “We just have to figure out how to get Nancy in there!” to which Washington suggested using “more flashbacks” as a creative means for Mara’s character to remain integral to the storyline.

Beyond the narrative, the push for a second season stems from the unique, empowering atmosphere behind the scenes. Washington and Moss took on the roles of executive producers, fostering a production culture characterized by mutual respect and shared experiences.

Washington noted that any decision regarding the show’s future would be a collective one: “We have really strong writers and strong co-producers, so that’s a conversation that’s bigger than just me, which is one of the things I really loved about making this show.”

She added, “There has been so much sisterhood and solidarity in how we approached every stage of this process. To be part of a show where every single one of the lead actresses, we’ve all held our own shows, we’ve all been number one on the call sheet, we’ve all done it, and to link arms and join forces and make these decisions together as actresses, and Lizzy and I as EPs, and to really work hand-in-hand with our other EPs, our writers, our directors … to be part of a team of women that is so collaborative and respectful of each other’s powers and gifts has just been a dream.”

While the “limited series” label often implies a definitive conclusion, the success of Imperfect Women and the enthusiastic support from its stars indicate that Apple TV+ may have a potential franchise on its hands. Whether through a direct continuation or an expansion of the “Imperfect” universe, it is evident that Washington and Moss are not quite ready to bid farewell to these characters.

For now, viewers will have to grapple with the questions raised by the first season—and hope that a second season eventually provides the answers.
