‘Baywatch’ Reboot First Teaser Reveals New Cast and Release Date
‘Baywatch’ is officially making its comeback, with Fox unveiling the first look at the anticipated reboot. The network has shared a new teaser trailer for the series, confirming that this fresh take on the iconic beach drama will premiere in January 2027.
The teaser introduces Stephen Amell as Hobie Buchannon, the son of the original show’s legendary lifeguard, Mitch Buchannon. In the preview, Hobie takes on a leadership role as a Baywatch Captain, describing the job as “the best job in the world.”
According to Fox, the new series will follow Hobie as he strives to uphold the Buchannon family legacy while navigating unexpected changes in his personal life. His world shifts when his daughter Charlie Vale, portrayed by Jessica Belkin, arrives and expresses her desire to join the Baywatch tradition.
The reboot will introduce a new generation of lifeguards, including Hassie Harrison as Nat, Shay Mitchell as Trna, Thaddeus LaGrone as Brad, Noah Beck as Luke, and Brooks Nader as Selene. Social media sensation Livvy Dunne will also make her acting debut in the series as Grace.
Fans of the original show will be pleased to see a familiar face returning. David Chokachi will reprise his role as Cody Madison from the classic series, creating a link between the original ‘Baywatch’ and the new iteration.
Fox’s reboot aims to retain the elements that made the original series a hit while modernizing the storyline for today’s audience. The show will feature dramatic rescues, relationship challenges, personal conflicts, and the high-stakes situations that come with safeguarding Southern California’s beaches.
The original ‘Baywatch’ premiered in 1989 and quickly became one of the most-watched television shows globally. According to Fox, the series was aired in over 200 countries and, at its peak, attracted more than a billion viewers weekly. It became synonymous with beach culture and helped launch its stars into international stardom.
The new ‘Baywatch’ series is being produced by Fox Entertainment and Fremantle. Matt Nix, known for his work on ‘Burn Notice’ and ‘The Gifted’, will serve as showrunner and executive producer. The executive producing team also includes McG, Michael Berk, Greg Bonann, Doug Schwartz, Dante Di Loreto, and Mike Horowitz, with McG directing the first episode of the reboot.
This new series arrives years after the original show’s conclusion and follows a 2017 film adaptation of ‘Baywatch’ starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. While that movie took a comedic approach, the upcoming Fox series seems to be returning to the action-drama style that made the television series so beloved.
With a blend of new talent, returning connections to the original narrative, and a fresh perspective on the lifeguard world, Fox hopes the reboot will introduce ‘Baywatch’ to a new generation while enticing long-time fans back to the beach.
The first teaser offers viewers a glimpse of the new team, but more information about the storyline and characters is anticipated as the January 2027 premiere approaches.
