Ben Affleck’s ‘Animals’ Trailer Released Ahead of October 9 Premiere

Ben Affleck has always embraced morally complex themes as a filmmaker, and his latest directorial venture seems to take that instinct to new heights. After stepping back from directing since 2023’s ‘Air,’ Affleck has spent the past year assembling an impressive ensemble cast for his return behind the camera.

This buildup has featured a steady stream of casting announcements, with Gillian Anderson, Kerry Washington, and Steven Yeun joining the project throughout the year, alongside Luis Gerardo Méndez and Adriana Paz. This film also marks a rare occasion where Affleck takes on writing, directing, and starring roles simultaneously, collaborating on the script with Connor O. McIntyre and Billy Ray.

Now, the anticipation has culminated as Netflix has unveiled the first full trailer for ‘Animals,’ offering audiences a closer look at the gripping crime thriller set to premiere on October 9.

The footage follows Milo Bradford, an LA mayoral candidate portrayed by Affleck, whose son is kidnapped during a crucial phase of his campaign. With their finances heavily invested in the race, Milo and his wife are forced to find a way to gather the ransom money, a desperate move that the trailer hints will lead to a darker unraveling.

Kerry Washington plays Milo’s wife, and the trailer emphasizes the tension between the couple as they make increasingly perilous decisions to safeguard their child. Gillian Anderson appears as a fixer brought in to manage the fallout, while Steven Yeun plays Milo’s campaign manager, caught in the crossfire of both a political and personal crisis.

Netflix describes the film as a heart-pounding thriller set against the backdrop of Los Angeles, and the trailer supports this, favoring a slow-building sense of dread over flashy action as the Bradfords’ carefully constructed life begins to fracture. The kidnapping plot serves as a pressure test not only for the family but also for the campaign and public image that Milo has meticulously built over the years.

Behind the scenes, Affleck reunites with longtime collaborator Matt Damon on the producing side through their Artists Equity banner, alongside producers Brad Weston, Dani Bernfeld, and Collin Creighton. Fifth Season and Makeready also contributed to the production, providing strong industry support to match the impressive cast.

The ensemble is further enhanced by Ray Fisher, Matt Gerald, Mark Kassen, and Christopher Woodley, adding depth to a cast already filled with familiar faces. For both Washington and Yeun, ‘Animals’ continues a trend of high-profile collaborations with Netflix, further enriching their recent portfolios.

With the trailer now available and a confirmed release date, ‘Animals’ is poised to be one of Netflix’s most anticipated fall offerings, merging Affleck’s knack for tense, character-driven thrillers with a premise centered on impossible choices. Given the talent both in front of and behind the camera, expectations are high for what could be one of the season’s most compelling releases.
