Daredevil Fans Rally for ‘Born Again’ as Season 3 is Set to Conclude
Few fandoms experience the pain of cancellation like that of ‘Daredevil’. The show, which aired on Netflix, concluded in 2018 after three seasons. A passionate fan petition, amassing over 400,000 signatures, successfully urged Marvel to bring back Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock. This effort ultimately led to the revival titled ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, which premiered on Disney+ in March 2025.
The revival has had an eventful journey. Season 1 consisted of 9 episodes and attracted 7.5 million viewers within its first five days. Season 2 followed in spring 2026 with 8 additional episodes. Although viewership for Season 2 dropped to about half of its predecessor, critics praised it as an improvement.
However, this week brought disappointing news. According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, Season 3 will be the final season. This was later confirmed by Variety and Deadline. Sources from Deadline revealed that the cast was informed that the upcoming season would be the last, with Marvel remaining silent on the matter.
The timing is particularly painful, as filming for the season has already wrapped. Additionally, Marvel did not renew the contract for showrunner Dario Scardapane, who is departing during post-production. It remains uncertain who will take over the remaining tasks.
Fans quickly reacted, reviving the #SavedDaredevil movement. Their statement reflected on the shock of Netflix canceling the original series in 2018, which left many storylines unresolved after Matt reunited with Karen Page and Foggy Nelson. The group acknowledged that fans played a crucial role in keeping the characters in the spotlight until ‘Born Again’ was released.
While the campaign has yet to present a new demand to Marvel or Disney+, its tone leaned more towards gratitude than a rallying cry. Nevertheless, it signaled that the fandom is far from fading away. The statement garnered thousands of likes and hundreds of shares, with Collider’s post about the campaign receiving 294 shares and 1.6K likes.
It’s important to remember the history surrounding this revival. Marvel has never officially credited any single fan campaign for bringing ‘Daredevil’ back. Charlie Cox did express his thanks to the campaign publicly, and several former co-stars joined him in the broader MCU, indicating that the show’s return involved more than just a hashtag.
Vincent D’Onofrio was the first cast member to publicly respond. He expressed gratitude to viewers for their support, hinting that the final season will feature some exciting developments, and reaffirmed his love for Wilson Fisk. As for Cox, who is not active on social media, a response from him may take longer.
The plot will continue with Matt Murdock in prison after revealing his identity as Daredevil at the end of Season 2. Wilson Fisk has lost his position as New York City mayor and is now in exile. Krysten Ritter, Mike Colter, and Finn Jones are set to reprise their roles as fellow Defenders, likely teaming up to confront Kingpin.
The season is anticipated to debut in March 2027, although Disney+ has not confirmed an exact date. Collider mentions that Marvel Television had previously considered making ‘Born Again’ an annual series, making this news even harder to digest.

This decision aligns with a larger trend, as Marvel Television has been gradually reducing the number of shows produced for Disney+. Reports indicate that ‘Wonder Man’ was unrenewed after initially being picked up for a second season. Currently, there are no plans for new content following the final season of ‘Daredevil: Born Again’, although a spy thriller titled ‘Zodiac’ has reportedly been greenlit.
This leaves the campaign facing a familiar uphill battle. Fans have successfully fought for this show once before, and with the season already completed, they have several months to make their voices heard before it premieres.
