Disney Characters that Start with A: Iconic Names
Disney has created many colorful and exciting characters over the years. Some Disney fans even name their babies or even pets after popular Disney characters. It’s a great way to remember favorite shows that brought joy to childhood.

Arlo (The Good Dinosaur)
Arlo is the young Apatosaurus protagonist of the animated film The Good Dinosaur. He eventually returned Spot to a group of humans as he returned to his own family.
Aurora (Sleeping Beauty)
One of the original Disney Princesses, she is a princess appearing in Sleeping Beauty. On the day of her birth, Aurora was cursed to die by a powerful fairy named Maleficent. Luckily, the other fairies were able to change the curse, causing her to undergo a deep sleep instead of dying.
Ariel (The Little Mermaid)
Did you know Ariel was the first Disney Princess that Walt Disney developed? Ariel is the adventurous youngest daughter of King Triton and Queen Athena, who is curious about life out of the water. Ariel is also known for bringing music back to her land.
Aladdin (Aladdin)
A street rat who met Princess Jasmine in the marketplace and fell in love with her. Aladdin later befriends a genie who says he can grant him three wishes. Unfortunately, he cannot simply wish for the princess to fall in love with him. He had to work for it.
Abu (Aladdin)
More of a partner than a pet, Abu is Aladdin’s kleptomaniac monkey companion in the movies. Abu is hardly seen without Aladdin.
Acer (Cars 2)
Who said villains couldn’t have awesome names like heroes can? Acer is a beat-up AMC Pacer that served as a secondary antagonist in the Pixar movie Cars 2.
Adella (The Little Mermaid)
All of King Triton’s daughters start with the letter A, so many of them will be on this list. Adella is the third daughter who wishes to experience romance with a boy.
Alice (Alice in Wonderland)
Alice is the title character of Disney’s 1951 film Alice in Wonderland. She is a young girl who follows a rabbit down a hole into Wonderland. She spends a good majority of the film trying to get back home.
Aliens (Toy Story 2)
The general name of the rubber squeeze toys that first appeared in the Toy Story franchise. They are called the Little Green Men.
Alpha (Up)
Alpha is the name of the Doberman Pinscher that was owned by Charles Muntz in the movie Up. He is the secondary antagonist in the Up film but the central antagonist in the Up short, Dug’s Special Mission.
Alistair Krei (Big Hero 6)
He sure has an important-sounding name. Alistair Krei is a CEO with big dreams. He is the CEO of a fictional company called Krei Tech, the company responsible for causing Professor Callaghan’s daughter’s disappearance.
Amelia Gabble (The Aristocats)
Since there were dozens of cats in the movie, sometimes the non-cat characters become more memorable. Amelia is one of the British Geese that appeared in The Aristocats. She is the goose that wears a Pink bonnet.
Attina (The Little Mermaid)
She is the eldest and most responsible sister of Ariel and the next in line for the throne. Her character was fleshed out more in the movie The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning.
Alana (The Little Mermaid)
Alana is one of Ariel’s many older sisters. She seems to be the sister most concerned with beauty and health as she speaks about it a lot in the movie The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Beginning.
Anna (Frozen)
She may be the sister without powers, but Anna has done a lot for the film’s success. She is the younger sister of Elsa and later becomes the ruler of Arendelle. She fought hard in the first film to get her sister to return to the kingdom.
Abigail Gabble (The Aristocats)
Another one of the British geese from the movie Aristocats. What makes her and her sister distinguishable is the color of the bonnet they are wearing. Abigail wears a blue bonnet.
Abby Park (Turning Red)
Abby Park is a Korean-Canadian preteen from the sensational film Turning Red. She is one of Mei’s best friends and seems to be the one more in touch with her emotions.
Alan-a-Dale (Robin Hood)
His name is only worded one time in the entire film of Robin Hood, but at least most people remember this story-telling rooster.
Am (Lady and the Tramp)
The other half of the pair of Siamese sisters featured in The Lady and the Tramp. The two look so identical it’s hard to tell them apart.
Aquata (The Little Mermaid)
In the films, Aquata is the awkward fourth and middle daughter of King Triton. However, in the original comics, she was actually the eldest daughter.
Alma Madrigal (Encanto)
Mirabel’s strict but caring Abuela’s name is Alma Madrigal. Abuela is the head of the Madrigal family and the entire village. Abuela is the one who takes care of the family’s candle, believing it to be the source of the Madrigal family’s magic.
Anastasia Tremaine (Cinderella)
She was originally an antagonist in the first Cinderella but later decides to turn over a new leaf. She becomes a supporting character in Cinderella II and even becomes the central heroine for the third movie.
Anchor (Finding Nemo)
Nemo had a lot of interesting fish with pretty unique names. Anchor is a frustrated hammerhead shark in the film. He and his two shark friends are part of a Fish Friendly Shark support group, a group of sharks that believe that fish are meant to be friends instead of being eaten.
Arista (The Little Mermaid)
She is depicted as one of her more adventurous sisters of Ariel. She is also shown to be more energetic than her other sisters. The series even has her go on Adventurous with Ariel.
Andy Davis (Toy Story)
People who have followed the toy story franchise would recall Andy. Andy is a major character in Toy Story and the original owner of Woody. He is known for taking good care of his toys but ultimately gave them away to a girl named Bonnie to play with.
Anita Radcliffe (101 Dalmatians)
In the film 101 Dalmatians, she becomes the wife of the owner of Pongo, Roger Radcliffe. Similar to her husband, before she got married to Roger, she also owned a dalmatian. Her dalmatian is a female named Perdita.
Andrina – The Little Mermaid
Andrina is one of the older sisters of Ariel and is the sister closer to her age. She seems to be the joker among her sisters.
Anger (Inside Out)
Anger is the red emotion inside Riley’s mind. Despite his short temper, he knows how to get things done and is very comfortable with his anger. However, even this emotion has a limit. When he gets too angry, his head might catch fire.
Archimedes (The Sword in the Stone)
Most people might think of the Tarzan character, but I’m going further back into Disney classics. Archimedes is a brilliant owl that has mastered the human tongue. In the film Sword in the Stone, he is featured as Merlin’s pet owl.
Queen Arianna (Tangled)
When you start the series the resemblance between Arianna with her daughter Rapunzel is uncanny. Arianna married King Frederic, and the two of them gave birth to a gifted baby girl called Rapunzel. In Tangled: Before Ever After, the relationship between the mother and daughter is deepened.
Angus (Brave)
You can’t go wrong with a trusty steed like Angus. Angus is the Shire horse of Merida. Most people remember this particular steed in Brave’s musical number Touch The Sky.
Anton Ego (Ratatouille)
He may seem like a bad guy at first glance, but really the man is just doing his job. Anton is the strict food critic featured in the film Ratatouille. He actually gave the restaurant a high rating in the movie. However, he and the restaurant were soon canceled due to another critic discovering rats. He now is a regular Patron in a small bistro that Remy works at.
Arthur Pendragon (Sword in the Stone)
The classic tale of King Arthur was made into a Disney movie. Arthur is a poor orphaned boy at the start of the film, but he is able to pull the sword out of a magical stone that makes him into the king of England.
Aphrodite (Hercules)
She is named and based on the actual Greek goddess of loved, Aphrodite. She doesn’t play a significant role in the film, but she has made several appearances in the series.
Agustin Madrigal (Encanto)
Augustin married into the Madrigal family and does not possess any magical powers. Like his daughter Mirabel, he also feels like he doesn’t belong in the family due to his clumsy nature.
General Atitaya (Raya and the Last Dragon)
She is a minor character in the film Raya and the Last Dragon. Just like the other people in Fang, her concern is the survival of her tribe. She is the one who reported to Virana that a dragon was accompanying Raya on her journey.
Atta (A Bug’s Life)
She probably wasn’t included in the Disney princess line-up because she’s an ant, but Atta perfectly fills her role as a princess (later queen) in her colony. Atta spends most of the film worrying about whether she’ll make a good queen or not. She also has a younger sister who is learning how to fly.
Art (Monster University)
For a monster, Art comes off as an oddball, even among his kind. He was a student attending Monster University around the same time Mike and Sully were enrolled. He was also a member of the Oozma Kappa fraternity while he was attending college.
Akela (The Jungle Book)
He doesn’t appear much in the animated version of The Jungle Book, so it’s possible not a lot of people remember him. Akela is an alpha wolf of the pack of wolves that eventually adopted Mowgli.
Ares (Hercules)
Ares is based on the Olympian God of War. Hercules had a tendency to present the gods in a more comical way, so he and Athene were shown to constantly get into fights in the series. He also despises anything that may come from Athena’s city.
Al McWhiggin (Toy Story 2)
In Toy Story 2, Al McWhiggin was the antagonist. He is a toy collector who wants to collect as many rare toys as possible and exchange them for money later. He also owns his own toy shop in the film called Al’s Tou Barn, which is located in the Tri-Country Area.
Agnarr (Frozen)
Anna and Elsa’s father does have a name, and it is Agnarr. People may have hated him since they counted what he did to Elsa as cruel, but he always had the best intentions for both his daughters in mind. In Frozen 2, we learn more details about him surviving the Enchanted Forest and his death.
Aaron T. – Turning Red
Aaron T. is a member of the popular boy band 4 Town. He seems to be the most energetic member of the group, even being called a prankster at times. Because of his bright personality, he usually breaks any weird tension happening between members.
Abby Mallard – Chicken Little
Chicken Little had a lot of intriguing but relatable characters. One of them is Abby Mallard, a female duck who is best friends with the film’s protagonist, Chicken Little. She also has a crush on Chicken Little
Aaron Z. (Turning Red)
Despite being the shy member of the group, Aaron Z is extremely involved with the group’s success. Being a member that’s easy on the eye is one thing, but Aaron Z. also comes up with his group’s choreography. He is also known for sports, particularly basketball.
Alchemy (W.I.T.C.H.)
For those who don’t remember, W.I.T.C.H. was made into a cartoon by Disney. One of the several supporting characters in the series is a red-haired best friend of Elyon and Cornelia, Alchemy. She doesn’t seem to be aware about the girls possessing magical powers. She is a massive fan of music, even forming a band later in the series.
Antonio Madrigal (Encanto)
Currently, he is the youngest Madrigal in the film and the most recent one to discover his gift. Before discovering his gift, he shared the nursery room together with Mirabel and grew attached to her. His gift allows him to speak and understand almost any animal. He considers Mirabel his sister.
Amity Blight (The Owl House)
Amity Blight is a character featured in Disney Channel’s hit animated series called the Owl House. Her name combination is interesting because her first name means friendship. However, her family name means disease or fungi. Amity is also one of the first Disney characters to come out as a lesbian.
Angel (Lilo and Stitch)
Originally known as Experiment 624, she eventually becomes Stitch’s love interest in the series. Still, the two are forced to have a long-distance relationship due to Angel having to sing all over the universe. Her ability allows her to turn anyone listening to her from good to evil and vice versa.
