The ‘Evil Dead’ franchise is back with another terrifying installment, and early feedback indicates that fans are in for one of the most exhilarating entries in the series yet.

The upcoming supernatural horror film ‘Evil Dead Burn’ has begun receiving reviews from critics. While many commend its intensity and gore, others argue that it may push the boundaries of violence too far.

Directed and co-written by Sébastien Vaniček and Florent Bernard, ‘Evil Dead Burn’ marks the sixth film in the long-standing ‘Evil Dead’ series. This installment continues the narrative from previous films while presenting a new standalone story. It is produced by Rob Tapert and franchise creator Sam Raimi, who originally launched the horror phenomenon decades ago.

The plot revolves around Alice, a woman grappling with her husband’s death. She gathers with his family at a secluded house, hoping for a peaceful reunion. However, the gathering quickly devolves into chaos as family members begin to transform into Deadites, unleashing terror in the isolated setting.

The film features a cast including Souheila Yacoub, Tandi Wright, Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, Erroll Shand, and Maude Davey. ‘Evil Dead Burn’ is set to be released in theaters across the United States on July 10, 2026, through Warner Bros. Pictures.

Currently, according to Rotten Tomatoes, the film holds a 78% Tomatometer score based on 51 critic reviews. The reactions have been mixed, with many critics praising the film’s extreme horror style, while others feel it falls short of the quality seen in earlier ‘Evil Dead’ films.

Some critics have lauded the film for fully embracing the franchise’s reputation for over-the-top violence. Germain Lussier from io9 described the film as an intense experience, stating that “Evil Dead Burn is so brutal, painful, disgusting, and intense that you can practically (but, thankfully, not literally) feel it buzzing in your bones.”

Chris Bumbray from JoBlo’s Movie Network also emphasized the movie’s shocking approach, calling it “the goriest (and grimmest) of the franchise to date.”

Other reviewers concurred that the film delivers precisely what horror fans expect from ‘Evil Dead’. Matt Hudson from What I Watched Tonight praised its chaotic and violent style, describing it as “grimy, yucky, wince-inducing and bloody fun – even if it may not be perfect.”

However, not all critics were impressed. Some felt the film relied too heavily on cruelty and lacked the charm that characterized earlier installments. David Crow from Den of Geek gave the film a negative review, stating “Evil Dead Burn is simply crude and cruel, a movie full of misanthropy and as unpleasant to sit through as the scatological splatter of mid-2000s torture porn.”

Kyle Anderson from Nerdist was also critical, commenting, “The ‘Evil Dead’ series has a very high bar for quality, and ‘Evil Dead Burn’ is comfortably the worst.”

Despite the mixed reviews, this latest installment seems poised to deliver exactly what many fans desire: a dark, violent, and unforgettable horror experience. The franchise has consistently balanced shocking scares with outrageous gore, and ‘Evil Dead Burn’ appears determined to elevate that tradition even further.

The future of the series is already in the works, with a seventh movie titled ‘Evil Dead Wrath’ scheduled for 2028, which will serve as a prequel to the original ‘The Evil Dead’.

For now, fans will have to wait and see if ‘Evil Dead Burn’ becomes another beloved entry or the most contentious chapter in the franchise’s history.
