Brad Pitt has long been open about his personal journey, particularly following his divorce from Angelina Jolie and the efforts he made to rebuild himself afterward. Few celebrities have shared their recovery experiences as candidly as Pitt, often attributing this process to a transformation in both his professional and personal life.

This transparency has become a hallmark of his public persona, especially in recent years as he reflects on the darker moments that led him to sobriety. Fans and journalists alike have closely monitored his journey, noting how Pitt has periodically updated them on his progress.

Recently, Pitt revealed a significant change in his narrative. In a new cover interview, the actor disclosed that after seven years of sobriety, he has begun drinking alcohol again, though he emphasizes that he is approaching it with much more caution than before.

During a conversation at his Los Angeles home, Pitt offered his interviewer a glass of wine. When asked if he kept alcohol around solely for guests, he admitted otherwise. “I was sober for seven years,” he stated. “And then I got back off the wagon.”

He quickly clarified that this does not signify a return to his previous habits, describing his current relationship with alcohol as much more controlled. “In a more restrained manner,” Pitt explained. “I got overconfident a couple times, went, ‘Yep, nope, not good for me.’ Not in big quantities.”

When pressed for specifics on what that restraint entails, Pitt was forthcoming. “I can have a few,” he shared. “But I can’t have a lot. I have to be professional about it.”

Pitt’s sobriety journey began in 2016, following his split from Jolie, a time he has described in past interviews as one of the most challenging periods of his life. He spent a year and a half attending an all-male Alcoholics Anonymous group, which he credits for helping him rebuild his life.

In 2020, Pitt publicly acknowledged fellow actor Bradley Cooper for his role in his sobriety, telling the audience at the National Board of Review gala that he got sober “because of this guy” and that “every day’s been happier ever since.” He revisited this topic as recently as June 2025, discussing his experiences in recovery meetings during an appearance on Dax Shepard’s “Armchair Expert” podcast, where he described the experience as “amazing.”

Given this history, his latest comments carry significant weight for those who have followed his journey closely. Rather than framing this shift as a setback, Pitt views it as an evolution, one where he has learned his limits and adjusted his approach accordingly.

In addition to discussing alcohol, Pitt reflected on his emotional life during the interview, expressing moments where he wished he could maintain a more even temperament. This aligns with a trend in his recent press appearances, where he has embraced vulnerability instead of deflecting it.

Whether this new chapter signifies a permanent change in how Pitt manages his relationship with alcohol remains to be seen. However, his willingness to discuss it so openly continues to distinguish him from many of his Hollywood peers. For an actor known for his ability to reinvent himself, this latest revelation feels like another honest chapter in a narrative he has never shied away from sharing.
