The imaginary world of fiction is limitless and any time we think about it, it sets our fantasies wild. It draws us into other worlds, and, on a good day, it might even make us feel better about our own world. With that in mind, I have decided to create a list of the biggest fictional characters in history whose names start with U, and maybe, just maybe, you might come across one of the characters that make your day better.

40. Umehito Nekozawa (Ouran High School Host Club)

Umehito Nekozawa

Umehito Nekozawa, commonly referred to simply as Nekozawa, is the president of the Black Magic Club and is depicted as a hooded figure who is never without Beelzenef, the curse doll, which is actually no more than a hand puppet that looks like a cat. Despite displaying a frightening disposition and strange hobbies, Nekozawa is actually a very nice person but suffers from photophobia, which causes him to collapse in direct sunlight.

39. Ultear Milkovich (Fairy Tail)

Ultear Milkovich

Ultear Milkovich is a female Mage and the daughter of Ur, a former member of the Magic Council, and also a former member of Grimoire Heart, where she was the leader of the Seven Kin of Purgatory. After defecting from the Dark Guild, she became an Independent Mage and co-founder of Crime Sorcière, until she left following the conclusion of the X791 Grand Magic Games.

38. Usui Takumi (Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama!)

Usui Takumi

Takumi Usui is the main male protagonist of the Kaichou wa Maid-Sama! Manga and anime series. He is amazingly talented at everything and he is the love interest of Misaki Ayuzawa, which then later Misaki becomes his wife as shown in chapter 85. 

37. Uenoyama Ritsuka (Given)

Uneoyama Ritsuka

Ritsuka Uenoyama is one of the main characters of the Given manga, an accomplished guitarist with a strong mindset despite being just a high school student. In a band with Akihiko and Haruki, one day he comes across and helps Mafuyu with his guitar and eventually they start dating. 

36. Uno (Nanbaka)

Uno

Uno, inmate number eleven, is one of the main protagonists of the Nanbaka anime and web manga series. He is an inmate of Nanba Prison where he is held in building thirteen, cell thirteen, and is a compulsive and talented gambler who was arrested for frequenting underground casinos.

35. Urasue (Inuyasha)

Urasue

Urasue was an evil demon ogre sorceress who grave-robbed the dirt and bones from Kikyō’s grave in the interest of bringing her back from the dead so that she could use Kikyō to find the Sacred Jewel shards for her. However, after creating a body, Urasue realized that Kikyō’s soul had been reincarnated into Kagome. 

34. Usami Akihiko (Junjou Romantica)

Usami Akihiko, nicknamed Usagi, is a main character in the Junjou Romantica series. His lover is Misaki Takahashi and their relationship title is Junjou Romantica, which bears the same title as the series. 

33. Umbra (Yu-Gi-Oh!)

Umbra

Umbra, known in the Japanese version as Mask of Darkness, is a member of Marik Ishtar’s Rare Hunter organization and is the Tag-Team partner of Lumis, and together they Dueled Seto Kaiba and Yugi Muto. Umbra wears a dark red frowning mask on the left side of his face. 

32. Urushihara Hanzo (Hataraku Maou-Sama! )

Urushihara Hanzo

Hanzō Urushihara is a fallen angel and one of the Demon King’s generals. After his defeat at the hands of Hero Emilia, he was secretly rescued by Olba Meyer, who promised to return Lucifer to heaven if they became allies in defeating the Demon Lord and after being defeated by the Demon Lord, he moved in with Sadao Maou and Ashiya. 

31. Ultraman Joneus (Ultraman)

Ultraman Joneus is the main Ultra featured in The Ultraman and unlike the majority of other Showa Ultras, he hails from Planet U40. Joneus was assigned to Planet Earth long before the start of the series and witnessed the bravery of Choichiro Hikari defending his space station from a single Goglan trying to eat the station’s wires despite his declining oxygen level. 

30. Ultraman Chuck (Ultraman)

Ultraman Chuck is one of the members of the Ultra Force, along with Ultraman Scott and Ultrawoman Beth, where he is also the eldest and leader of the team. He debuted in Ultraman: The Adventure Begins, where he merged with the stunt pilot Chuck Gavin to fight against the creatures from Planet Sorkin, and he is also the last member of the Ultra Force to appear. 

29. Ukon (Naruto)

Sakon and his older brother Ukon were twin brothers from Otogakure and the apparent leader(s) of the Sound Four. In the anime, the Sound Four were originally prisoners of Orochimaru, forced to fight other prisoners to the death in battle royales, and by surviving their respective matches, they proved themselves to be the strongest of Orochimaru’s prisoners and as such were made his bodyguards.

28. Ubik (Berserk)

Ubik is a member of the God Hand and his primary role is manipulating the emotions of those chosen by the Beherit into sacrificing their cherished ones or possessions. Ubik does most of the talking when the God Hand is present, providing much exposition, and his role appears to be to convince the would-be Apostle to accept the God Hand’s sacrificial bargain by tempting them and convincing them that they cannot move forward without losing something of value.

27. Unkar Plutt (Star Wars)

Unkar Plutt

Unkar Plutt, a male member of the Crolute species, resided in the remote, lawless world of Jakku approximately 30 years after the Battle of Endor. The Crolute was a junk boss who bought weapons, gears, and scraps of Rebel and Imperial ships that had crashed during the Battle of Jakku.

Ursa Wren was a human female Mandalorian warrior, the wife of Alrich Wren, the mother of Tristan and Sabine Wren, and the leader and Countess of Clan Wren. She was part of Death Watch, a Mandalorian splinter group that took over Mandalore during the Clone Wars

The Ultra-Humanite is a genius super-villain with the ability to transfer his mind into other bodies and this has made him an enemy to the Justice Society and Superman. His main claim to fame is his ability to transfer his own consciousness from one living body to another, but he also has invented a vast array of advanced weapons, vehicles, and other arcane technology. 

24. Ururu Tsumugiya (Bleach)

Ururu Tsumugiya is an employee of the Urahara Shop and is a young-looking girl with a perpetual blush on her cheeks who wears a white t-shirt with the Urahara Shop logo in pink print and a knee-length, pink skirt with white dots. Ururu is a very quiet and shy person and is very polite to those around her, and when asked to help, she does so happily.

23. Uwabami (My Hero Academia)

Snake Hero: Uwabami is a Pro Hero and a celebrity and is an attractive and curvy woman with long blonde hair that is styled in curly locks in the front with folded curls in the back that is pressed by a curved plate and golden eyes with vertically slit pupils. Her most distinguishing feature is the three snakes (a rattlesnake, a yellow King cobra snake, and a Japanese rat snake) that are seen protruding from her hair.

22. Unicron (Transformers)

Unicron

Unicron is the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother Primus. Also known as the Lord of Chaos, the Chaos Bringer, and the Planet Eater, he is dedicated to consuming the multiverse and his massive form is powered by the consumption of planets, moons, stars, and even the very fabric of existence. 

21. Ultrawoman Beth (Ultraman)

Ultrawoman Beth is one of the members of the Ultra Force, along with Ultraman Scott and Ultraman Chuck and she debuted in Ultraman: The Adventure Begins, where she merged with the stunt pilot Beth O’Brian to fight against the creatures from Planet Sorkin. She is the first of the Ultra Force to appear and also the first Ultra Warrior to bear the title of Ultrawoman, which has since then become the standard prefix for other female Ultras before and thereafter.  

20. Uriah Heep (David Copperfield)

Uriah Heep is a fictional character and the unctuous villain in Charles Dickens’s novel David Copperfield, who is initially introduced as an apprentice at Mr. Wickfield’s legal practice, but he eventually becomes Mr. Wickfield’s partner. It turns out, however, that Uriah has secured his position through a variety of underhanded and illegal means: in addition to encouraging Mr. Wickfield’s drinking habit, he exploited his employer’s resulting confusion by forging his signature on multiple questionable business dealings and then threatening to expose Mr. Wickfield’s supposed crimes.

The Undertaker is an ex-Grim Reaper (Shinigami) and a funeral director who works within the underworld of Britain. He is currently one of the primary antagonists of the manga/anime series Black Butler and he frequently acts as an informant to Ciel Phantomhive and his demon butler, Sebastian Michaelis before turning on them. 

18. Ume (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba)

Over a century ago, Daki was a human child by the name of Ume, who lived in the Rashomon Riverbank of Yoshiwara, the lowest class of the Entertainment District, before she and Gyutaro were turned into demons personally by Douma, who was Upper-Rank Six at the time.

Uta is a ghoul and an old friend of Renji Yomo and Itori. He owns the HySy ArtMask Studio, where he sells masks, whilst also being a member of the Clowns, and is known as No Face to the CCG investigators

16. U.S Agent (Marvel Comics)

U.S Agent

Jonathan F. “John” Walker is a former Captain of the United States Army’s 75th Rangers Regiment who was chosen to succeed Steve Rogers as the second Captain America but brutally murdered a surrendering foreign national in public, leading to him being stripped of his mantle and discharged with total loss of rank. However, when the Power Broker offers him enhanced strength, he takes it and becomes the heroic, albeit smug, U.S.Agent.

15. Uvogin (Hunterxhunter)

Uvogin was member #11 of the Phantom Troupe, the tallest and most muscular member of the Phantom Troupe. Uvogin was a typical Enhancer: determined, headstrong, simple, and sometimes disrespectful, and was barbaric in manner, viewing even pain as merely a nuisance.

14. Umino Iruka (Naruto)

Umino Iruka is a chūnin of Konohagakure, who served primarily as an instructor at the Academy until being promoted to Headmaster years later. In the anime, it was revealed that Iruka became a teacher because he wanted to pass on the Will of Fire to the next generation in this manner, inspired by the Third Hokage’s wisdom. 

13. Urokodaki Sakonji (Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba)

Sakonji Urokodaki is a retired member of the Demon Slayer Corps, having held the position of the previous Water Hashira, and is the main cultivator of the Water Breathing, having trained Giyu Tomioka, Tanjiro Kamado, Sabito, and Makomo.

12. Uatu The Watcher (Marvel Comics)

Uatu is one of the Watchers who had observed the Multiverse from his place in the Nexus of All Realities becoming known as The Watcher. Along with his fellow Watchers, Uatu abides by an oath that prohibits him from interfering with events occurring within the realities he observes.

11. Usagi Tsukino (Sailor Moon)

Usagi Tsukino is the civilian identity of the Sailor Guardian of Love and Justice, Sailor Moon, who serves as the titular protagonist of the series. Originally from a prosperous civilization on the Moon known as the Moon Kingdom, she was reborn on Earth and reawakened as the leader of the Sailor Senshi. 

10. Ulquiorra Cifer (Bleach)

A slender, yet fairly muscular, male Arrancar of average height with a melancholic appearance, Ulquiorra Cifer is the fourth Espada in Aizen’s army of Arrancar. Ulquiorra is a very cold, callous, and dispassionate figure, and is rather aloof, brooding, and indifferent, willing to harm his comrades in addition to his enemies should they get in his way, and often refers to anyone he does not find interesting as “trash”, and treats them as expendable.

Ungoliant was a primordial taking the shape of a gigantic spider and was initially an ally of Melkor in Aman, and for a short time in Middle-earth as well. She was a distant mother of Shelob and the oldest and first giant spider of Arda. 

8. Ultron (Marvel Comics)

Ultron was an Artificial Intelligence that was originally designed to be part of a Peacekeeping Program created by both Tony Stark and Bruce Banner, using the decrypted code derived from the Mind Stone encased within Loki’s Scepter. However, when the Mind Stone activated him, Ultron’s original programming directive, which was to protect Earth from all domestic and extraterrestrial threats, had swiftly become corrupted by the stone. 

7. Unohana Retsu (Bleach)

Retsu Unohana, formerly known as Yachiru Unohana, was the former captain of the Fourth Division in the Gotei 13 and her lieutenant was Isane Kotetsu. She was one of the oldest and most experienced captains, and was Soul Society’s best healer, as well as the first person to wield the name “Kenpachi”.

Underdog, also known as Shoeshine, is a canine superhero and the titular protagonist of the animation of the same name. He was previously a normal dog until he was exposed to a variety of DNA of different animals, which modifies the beagle’s DNA and gives him supernatural powers and abilities.

“God” Usopp is the sniper of the Straw Hat Pirates. He is the fourth member of the crew and the third to join, doing so at the end of the Syrup Village Arc, and although he left the crew during the Water 7 Arc, he rejoined at the end of the Post-Enies Lobby Arc.

Ursula (also known as the Sea Witch) is the main antagonist of Disney‘s 1989 animated feature film The Little Mermaid. She is a villainous Cecelia (half-woman, half-octopus) who strikes deals with unfortunate merfolk with the promise of making their dreams come true.
