New set photos from the upcoming Netflix series ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’ showcase actor Tanner Hagen fully embracing the role of Shaggy Rogers.

The 21-year-old was spotted filming on April 27 in Atlanta, Georgia, wearing Shaggy’s iconic green shirt while shooting scenes for the prequel series. These images provide one of the first clear glimpses of how the character is being portrayed in the new show.

‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’ is a live-action and CGI series that reimagines the beloved mystery-solving group. Set during the characters’ final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, the story follows four teenagers who become embroiled in a dark mystery linked to a supernatural murder case involving a Great Dane puppy. This case thrusts the group into perilous situations while revealing secrets from their past.

Tanner Hagen takes on the role of Shaggy Rogers, marking his biggest role to date. Prior to this project, he appeared in smaller roles, including an episode of HBO Max’s ‘The Pitt’ and the YouTube series ‘Dhar Mann,’ where he portrayed a young version of MrBeast.

The main cast also features Mckenna Grace as Daphne Blake, Abby Ryder Fortson as Velma Dinkley, and Maxwell Jenkins as Fred Jones. Paul Walter Hauser plays a character connected to Scooby-Doo, while Frank Welker lends his voice to Scooby-Doo, depicted as a talking Great Dane puppy.

Developed by Josh Appelbaum and Scott Rosenberg, who also serve as showrunners and writers, the series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, Berlanti Productions, and Midnight Radio. Reports indicate that development began in 2024, with an official announcement following the next year. Filming commenced in late April 2026.

The show will consist of eight episodes and is set to stream on Netflix. The first episode will be directed by Toby Haynes.

This reboot is intriguing as it aims to blend a nostalgic childhood franchise with a darker mystery tone. If the balance is maintained, it could resonate well, but it also poses challenges given the iconic nature of the characters. What are your thoughts on this new direction for ‘Scooby-Doo: Origins’?
