After seven years on air, HBO’s Euphoria has officially concluded. This announcement came from creator, writer, and director Sam Levinson during an appearance on the Popcast podcast by The New York Times, where he spoke with hosts Joe Coscarelli and Jon Caramanica. HBO later confirmed the news to Variety, clarifying that the show will not continue beyond its third season.

The series ran for three seasons, totaling 26 episodes. Its final episode, titled “In God We Trust,” now serves as the official series finale. What many fans believed might be a temporary season ending is now confirmed to be the conclusion of the entire story.

Levinson had previously hinted that the show was approaching its conclusion. Zendaya, who portrays the lead character Rue Bennett, also suggested in earlier interviews that Season 3 could be the final chapter. The lengthy gap between Season 2 and Season 3, with four years passing between releases, contributed to this belief. During that time, much of the cast transitioned into significant film careers, complicating production schedules.

In his discussion on Popcast, Levinson shared his creative philosophy regarding the series, stating he always treated each season as if it might be the last. He also expressed his current mindset about stepping back from the show, saying, “I don’t know,” when asked about the possibility of continuing the series. “As of right now, all I want to do is hang out with my wife and kids and read some Elmore Leonard and watch ‘Mrs. Miniver’ again.”

The show established its identity through intense storytelling centered on teenage life, following a group of high school students grappling with drugs, relationships, identity, trauma, and social media. In its final season, the narrative advanced in time and delved into deeper themes, including faith, redemption, and moral conflict.

The cast of Euphoria featured Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Jacob Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane, Martha Kelly, Chloe Cherry, Toby Wallace, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and Colman Domingo. Over the years, many of these actors emerged as major stars in Hollywood, which also contributed to delays and scheduling challenges.

Created by Sam Levinson, the series was produced alongside a long list of executive producers, including Ashley Levinson, Sara E. White, Kevin Turen, Ravi Nandan, Drake, and others. HBO supported the show throughout its run, as it became one of the network’s most discussed dramas.

With its official conclusion, Euphoria closes a significant chapter in modern television, leaving behind a series that has influenced pop culture discussions surrounding youth, addiction, and identity for nearly a decade.
