Here’s the First Trailer for Samuel L. Jackson’s ‘The Beast’ – Release Date, Cast, and Details
Action films featuring a commander-in-chief facing peril have become a distinct genre, with titles like ‘White House Down’ and ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ leading the way. Samuel L. Jackson, however, brings a fresh twist to the familiar premise by placing the president directly in the action.
Jackson has previously dabbled in presidential heroics, notably in 2014’s ‘Big Game,’ where he portrayed a character who survived a hijacking of Air Force One with the help of a young boy in the Finnish wilderness. Now, he returns to similar territory, this time with a significantly larger and more heavily armed vehicle at his command.
Aura Entertainment has unveiled the first trailer for ‘The Beast,’ revealing that Jackson will portray the President of the United States in this new action thriller directed by Renny Harlin. Set to premiere in theaters on October 9, the trailer dives headfirst into explosive and over-the-top action.
The plot centers on a militia of unidentified attackers staging a coup against the United States, compelling Jackson’s president to take control of the armored presidential limousine known as The Beast. He must utilize the vehicle’s advanced arsenal to protect a seriously injured Secret Service agent, reunite with his wife, and ultimately save the nation from disaster.
The trailer showcases some of these capabilities, including hidden Gatling guns in the trunk and a fully stocked wet bar. The premise embraces the “president under attack” subgenre popularized by films like ‘White House Down’ and ‘Air Force One,’ while adding a delightfully absurd twist with a weaponized limousine handling much of the action.
Joel Kinnaman co-stars as the injured Secret Service agent who rides alongside Jackson during the chaos, marking their second collaboration after both appeared in the 2014 ‘RoboCop’ remake. Colin Morgan and Guy Burnet complete the supporting cast, contributing to a production that clearly embraces its humorous side.
‘The Beast’ also signifies a reunion between Jackson and Harlin, who previously collaborated on the 2007 film ‘Cleaner.’ Harlin’s filmography includes a mix of beloved action classics and more controversial recent projects, having directed films such as ‘Die Hard 2,’ ‘Cliffhanger,’ and this year’s shark thriller ‘Deep Water.’
Whether this partnership proves more successful than their last remains to be seen, but early reactions to the trailer indicate that fans appreciate the film’s self-aware humor. Much of this comes from lighter moments in the trailer, including a scene where Kinnaman’s character tries to imitate Jackson’s iconic delivery of a certain expletive.
With just over a month until its theatrical release, marketing for ‘The Beast’ is expected to intensify. With Jackson’s undeniable star power and the sheer absurdity of a bulletproof, Gatling-gun-equipped presidential limousine, the film appears poised to carve out its own niche in an already bustling genre.
