Horror franchises often make a significant impact at the box office, but few have been as consistently successful as the ‘Insidious‘ series. Originating as a low-budget horror film in 2011, it has transformed into one of Blumhouse’s most lucrative properties, with the latest installment continuing to deliver impressive returns.

The film in question is ‘Insidious: Out of the Further,’ the sixth entry in the franchise. It follows Gemma, a young mother who discovers her ability to travel into the Further, the series’ purgatorial realm, inadvertently bringing its demons into the real world. Directed by Jacob Chase, the film debuted domestically on August 21, with a production budget of $18 million, setting the stage for a strong financial performance, regardless of competition from summer blockbusters.

That strong performance has now been confirmed. ‘Out of the Further’ has officially crossed the $100 million mark globally, making it the fastest August release of 2026 to achieve this milestone and continuing the franchise’s impressive box office streak.

This achievement also marks a significant milestone for Blumhouse. With ‘Out of the Further’ reaching this financial landmark, 2026 becomes the first year the studio has produced three separate films that each grossed over $100 million. This includes ‘Obsession,’ created with Focus Features, and ‘Backrooms,’ produced through Atomic Monster, alongside ‘Insidious,’ which was distributed by Sony’s Screen Gems label.

The success of these films has propelled Blumhouse Atomic Monster’s total box office earnings for 2026 past $1 billion, marking only the second time the combined labels have achieved this feat since their merger in 2024. Including ‘Lee Cronin’s The Mummy,’ another release from the studio this year, these four films were made on a combined budget of approximately $50.75 million, yielding a return of around 20 times that investment within just eight months.

While ‘Out of the Further’ opened with domestic earnings lower than 2023’s ‘Insidious: The Red Door,’ which debuted at $33 million, it still managed a respectable $25.3 million domestically and $60.3 million globally. Given the franchise’s history, a strong overall total was almost guaranteed, as every previous ‘Insidious’ film has surpassed $100 million worldwide, regardless of its opening weekend performance.

The film also boasts the highest Rotten Tomatoes audience score of any entry in the franchise at 71 percent, indicating that ‘Out of the Further’ has resonated well with audiences, even while competing against ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s’ historic box office run. Notably, Sony achieved the rare feat of landing both the first and second highest-grossing domestic titles that weekend, a milestone they hadn’t reached in the last two years.

With six films collectively grossing over $800 million worldwide against a total budget of around $60 million, ‘Insidious’ stands as one of the most reliable franchises in horror. This latest success virtually guarantees that Blumhouse will continue to explore the Further in future installments.
