Marvel’s lineup of returning Avengers continues to grow, and fans are eagerly analyzing every cryptic social media post for clues about who might join the fray next. Among the original team members, the franchise’s beloved archer holds a special place in the hearts of many.

Jeremy Renner’s future in the MCU has been somewhat uncertain in recent years, especially after he was not included in the confirmed cast for ‘Avengers: Doomsday.’ However, speculation has not waned, and recent buzz suggests that his journey with the franchise may not be over yet.

According to a new report, Renner is expected to reprise his role as Hawkeye in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars,’ the sequel to ‘Doomsday’ that is currently set for a December 2027 release. This news adds to a growing collection of hints that the actor has been dropping in recent days.

Recently, Renner shared a close-up image of his Hawkeye costume on his Instagram story without any caption, which immediately sparked speculation among fans. He followed this with another Instagram story featuring a similar shot of the costume, this time captioned “Added to END GAME PRESS,” further igniting rumors about a potential return linked to Marvel’s current promotional efforts.

Renner’s connection to these Avengers sequels has been anything but clear-cut. In October 2025, he addressed the possibility of appearing in either ‘Doomsday’ or ‘Secret Wars,’ laughing off the notion that Marvel might replace him with a Hawkeye variant and simply stating that he is busy with other projects.

Kevin Feige added more intrigue to the situation shortly after, confirming during CinemaCon that more casting news for ‘Doomsday’ was still forthcoming, even as Renner continued to downplay his involvement. Whether his denials reflect genuine uncertainty or the kind of contractual secrecy often seen with Marvel actors remains to be seen.

To complicate matters, Renner has also been confirmed to reprise Clint Barton for Avengers Infinity Defense, a new attraction set to join Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure. Announced during the Horizons: Disney Experiences Showcase at D23, the ride is expected to open in 2028 and will also feature Chris Hemsworth’s Thor, Anthony Mackie’s Captain America, and Robert Downey Jr., bringing Renner back into the Marvel universe in at least one confirmed role.

Renner has expressed his enthusiasm for the character’s future beyond just these films. He previously told Empire that he felt his body was preparing for a potential return, expressing excitement about revisiting the world of Hawkeye and hinting at a possible second season of his Disney+ series.

Given how closely Clint Barton’s story is tied to characters like Kate Bishop and Yelena Belova, many fans see his eventual return as more of a certainty than a possibility. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is already confirmed to feature a large roster of returning stars, including Pedro Pascal, Paul Rudd, Florence Pugh, and Tom Hiddleston, with ‘Secret Wars’ expected to expand that lineup even further once its cast list is revealed.

Whether Renner’s recent hints lead to an official confirmation remains to be seen, but the timing has certainly caught the attention of fans piecing together clues ahead of Marvel’s next wave of announcements. For now, all eyes are on whether Hawkeye’s bow will return when ‘Secret Wars’ finally hits theaters.
