Josh Peck is sharing insights into his financial earnings during his time as a Nickelodeon star, revealing that the figure is much less than many fans might assume.

In a recent appearance on the “Financial Tea with Mrs. Dow Jones” podcast, Peck discussed his income from the beloved sitcom “Drake & Josh,” explaining that the series did not make him a millionaire while it aired. After four years and 60 episodes, his total earnings amounted to around $500,000.

Peck began his acting career with smaller paychecks on Nickelodeon’s “The Amanda Show,” where he and his co-stars earned about $3,000 per episode before transitioning to “Drake & Josh.”

As the show’s popularity increased, so did their episode payments. By the series’ end, Peck was making approximately $15,000 per episode. However, after accounting for taxes, management fees, and other expenses, much of that income was diminished.

“So over four years, we wound up making about $900,000, but I think we probably, between agent, manager, and taxes, we cleared half of that,” Peck stated on the podcast.

Peck estimated that his annual earnings during that four-year span were around $125,000 after expenses. He also noted that the cast did not receive significant residual payments from the show, a common issue for many child actors at the time.

According to Peck, young actors had limited negotiating power back then. He explained that Nickelodeon was one of the few major platforms for young performers to establish a television career, which left actors with few alternatives.

“It was a different time and I think it was… there was only one sort of place to do it, right?” Peck remarked while reflecting on the situation.

He compared his experience to that of other television casts who managed to negotiate better deals together. Peck suggested that younger performers often accepted the contracts available to them due to the scarcity of opportunities in the industry.

Peck also discussed how earning money as a teenager influenced his relationship with finances. Growing up with a single mother, he became the primary earner for his family at a young age, which brought about a sense of pressure and financial stress that lingered.

Even after achieving success, Peck remained cautious with his finances. He credits his mother, his accountant, and his mentor Dan from Big Brothers Big Sisters for instilling smart financial habits in him. Rather than taking significant risks, Peck focused on saving and investing in straightforward ways.

He mentioned that he waited until his mid-30s to purchase a home, wanting to ensure financial stability in case acting opportunities diminished.

Peck first gained fame as a child comedian before joining Nickelodeon. After his stint on “The Amanda Show,” he became a household name alongside Drake Bell in “Drake & Josh,” which aired from 2004 to 2007.

Since then, Peck has continued to build a successful career with roles in films and television. He voiced Eddie in the “Ice Age” franchise, portrayed Casey Jones in “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,” appeared in “Oppenheimer,” and starred in shows like “Turner & Hooch” and “How I Met Your Father.”

Today, Peck remains active in acting, hosts his “Good Guy’s Podcast,” and is working on new projects while prioritizing his family and making thoughtful career choices.
