A fresh image showcasing Hal Jordan and John Stewart from HBO’s anticipated DC series ‘Lanterns’ has been unveiled, offering fans another sneak peek ahead of its 2026 premiere.

‘Lanterns’ is a superhero series set within the new DC Universe, developed for HBO by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King. The show draws inspiration from the DC Comics characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart, both members of the Green Lantern Corps.

Produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television, Chris Mundy serves as showrunner. The series has undergone a lengthy development process that began years ago under Greg Berlanti, later restructured after James Gunn and Peter Safran assumed leadership of DC Studios in 2022.

According to production details released by HBO and DC Studios, the series takes a unique approach compared to standard superhero narratives. It blends crime investigation with science fiction elements. The central storyline follows Hal Jordan and John Stewart as they delve into a murder case on Earth, gradually uncovering a much larger and darker mystery.

Kyle Chandler portrays Hal Jordan, a seasoned Green Lantern nearing retirement who adopts a mentoring role. Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart, a newer recruit being trained to succeed Jordan in the Corps. The cast also features Kelly Macdonald as Kerry, a small-town sheriff, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, another Green Lantern known for his challenging personality.

Additional characters in the series include those linked to both Earth-based narratives and the broader Green Lantern universe. Ulrich Thomsen plays Sinestro, a former Corps member with a complex history tied to Hal Jordan. Several supporting roles expand the storyline beyond the main investigation.

Filming for ‘Lanterns’ occurred in Los Angeles from early to mid-2025, with various directors contributing to the series across its eight episodes. The show is intended to be part of the DCU’s first chapter, titled ‘Gods and Monsters.’

The series is set to debut in August.

Based on the information provided by HBO and DC Studios, the new image emphasizes the partnership between Hal Jordan and John Stewart, which is expected to be central to the show’s narrative. Their dynamic as experienced and novice Green Lanterns will be a key focus of the series.

This series appears to represent a fresh direction for DC television. It is not solely focused on superhero action but also incorporates a mystery-driven storyline, which could help it stand out if executed effectively. The combination of Kyle Chandler and Aaron Pierre brings significant acting talent to the lead roles. What are your thoughts on this new interpretation of Green Lantern?
