Prediction markets have gained popularity among fans eager to navigate their anxieties surrounding major ‘Star Wars’ and Marvel releases. This trend has transformed speculation about character fates into a lively betting sport. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is no different, with traders frequently adjusting their bets as new trailers, rumors, and marketing materials emerge.

For a time, the focus had shifted away from one of the franchise’s most frequently killed-off characters. Steve Rogers had risen to the top of the betting pool, propelled by ambiguous trailer footage and lingering questions about which version of the character would return.

However, that dynamic has changed once more. Steve Rogers has been surpassed as the frontrunner to die in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ with Loki reclaiming the lead after his demise in ‘Marvel Rivals’ prompted traders to revise their odds, according to Polymarket.com. The prediction market now assigns a 77 percent probability to Loki’s death, reflecting a significant 27-point increase.

This shift can be traced back to ‘Marvel Rivals’ Season 10, which premiered on September 11, 2026, and introduced Gorr the God Butcher as a new playable character. Loki’s mysterious absence from the game’s character select screen prior to the season was confirmed in the new trailer.

The game’s season description reveals that Gorr has been “wielding the power of All-Black the Necrosword against the would-be gods of Thebes,” a narrative that fans quickly linked to Loki’s disappearance. The suggestion that Gorr may have killed Loki within the game’s storyline was enough to send ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ bettors rushing back to Loki as the character most likely to die in the upcoming film.

Before this latest turn, Steve Rogers had briefly occupied the top position in the betting pool. This shift was partly due to trailer footage that reportedly showed Thor questioning Steve’s return, leading to theories that the version appearing in ‘Doomsday’ might be an alternate variant rather than the familiar character.

Additional fan theories suggested that footage showing Steve alongside a child might hint at another significant character exit tied to his storyline. This combination of uncertainty was enough to temporarily push Loki out of the top spot until the ‘Marvel Rivals’ reveal reshuffled the odds.

Loki’s history of near-death experiences in the MCU has made him a focal point for fan speculation, and this latest development adds another layer to that narrative. Unverified reports have also suggested that Doctor Doom kills Loki during an attack on the Time Variance Authority, further complicating the character’s already precarious odds heading into the film.

Thor had also spent time at the top of the market before slipping down as attention shifted elsewhere. Currently, Sam Wilson’s Captain America and Doctor Strange find themselves in the middle of the pack, while Doctor Doom has one of the lowest death probabilities, widely expected to survive through to ‘Avengers: Secret Wars.’

Marvel has not provided any official confirmation regarding any character’s fate in ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ and the studio’s marketing has historically embraced ambiguity rather than clarifying it. This silence allows prediction markets to fill the void with trailer analysis, cross-media Easter eggs, and pure fan intuition.

Whether Loki’s fate in ‘Marvel Rivals’ will reflect anything in the actual film remains uncertain, but for now, bettors are clearly not taking any chances. ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is set to premiere in theaters on December 18, 2026.

The market tracking these odds has reportedly generated around $20,000 in trading volume so far, a modest figure that still highlights how invested fans are in predicting the film’s outcome before its release. Each new trailer clip or promotional tie-in seems capable of swinging the numbers in a different direction.

This volatility is likely to persist until the film’s December release, especially with Marvel’s marketing team showing no signs of confirming or denying any of it directly. For now, Loki’s odds remain at the top, but this betting pool has shown that nothing is ever settled for long.
