Netflix has officially announced that ‘Grown Ups 3’ is in the works, bringing Adam Sandler back to one of his most beloved comedy franchises.

The news was revealed during Netflix’s upfront presentation in New York City on Wednesday. This new installment continues the story that began with the 2010 comedy ‘Grown Ups,’ which was a significant box office success and led to a sequel in 2013.

Once again, Adam Sandler will lead the cast and is co-writing the script alongside his longtime collaborator Tim Herlihy. The film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck, who recently teamed up with Sandler on ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ another hit for Netflix.

While Netflix has yet to disclose any plot details or casting confirmations, the project is anticipated to bring back much of the original creative team. Sandler is producing the film with Jackie Sandler, Jack Giarraputo, Kevin Grady, and Judit Maull, while Herlihy serves as both writer and producer.

The first ‘Grown Ups’ film debuted in 2010 under Sony Pictures and featured a star-studded ensemble cast, including Kevin James, Chris Rock, David Spade, Rob Schneider, and Salma Hayek. The movie followed a group of childhood friends who come together after the passing of their basketball coach, ultimately grossing over $270 million worldwide.

A sequel was released in 2013, introducing new cast members like Andy Samberg, Taylor Lautner, and Patrick Schwarzenegger.

Kyle Newacheck’s involvement is particularly noteworthy due to his recent collaboration with Sandler. He directed ‘Happy Gilmore 2,’ which emerged as one of Netflix’s biggest comedy hits. His experience also includes work on ‘Workaholics’ and the Netflix film ‘Murder Mystery,’ featuring Sandler and Jennifer Aniston.

For years, there have been whispers about a potential third ‘Grown Ups’ movie. Kevin James previously encouraged fans to “keep hope alive,” and earlier comments from director Dennis Dugan in 2015 hinted that discussions were ongoing, though nothing was confirmed at that time.

Screenwriter Tim Herlihy recently commented on the possibility of more sequels in Sandler’s filmography, stating, “This throws it open.” He added, “Definitely not sure we want to just be in the business of doing sequels to movies. But the response to this and the way people have embraced it definitely makes it more exciting, if we were to do that.”

Currently, Netflix has not announced a release date for ‘Grown Ups 3,’ and details about the cast remain undisclosed. However, the confirmation alone indicates that one of Sandler’s most iconic comedy franchises is officially making a comeback.
