New MCU X-Men Rumor Reunites Original Mutant Team With Twist for Rogue
Marvel Studios’ ‘X-Men‘ reboot has sparked a flurry of casting rumors in recent months, with numerous names surfacing for iconic characters like Professor X and Magneto. So far, the studio has officially confirmed just three actors: Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, and Kit Connor as Cyclops.
Despite the limited confirmations, insiders continue to speculate about the film’s core mutant lineup. Recent reports have varied, with some suggesting a seven-member team that includes Storm and Magneto, while others focus on the classic original comic book team.
The latest rumor strongly leans toward the latter. Insider James Mack claims the X-Men lineup will feature Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman as the main team, with Rogue notably absent from the official roster. However, Mack noted that Rogue will play a significant role as a student at Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters, rather than being a full-fledged team member.
This approach mirrors Rogue’s role in the original live-action ‘X-Men’ film from 2000, where she was not a core combat-ready member but served as an emotional anchor connecting Wolverine to the team. If true, this new direction suggests Marvel is intentionally drawing from that earlier cinematic framework while assembling a distinctly different character roster.
What makes this rumor intriguing is the specific focus on Cyclops, Jean Grey, Beast, Angel, and Iceman, which reflects the very first team introduced by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby in the original ‘X-Men’ comics back in 1963. This lineup has never been fully assembled in live-action before, making this reported team composition a refreshing take for the franchise.
Other recent reports have hinted at a larger ensemble that includes Storm, Rogue, Professor X, and Magneto, with Beast and Angel being more speculative additions. The consistent overlap between these reports suggests that Beast and Angel may indeed be locked in, even as the complete roster remains uncertain.
Additionally, reports indicate that the film will introduce more mutants within the environment of Xavier’s School, allowing for a broader world beyond just the central team. This strategy would enable Marvel to showcase a variety of characters without necessarily giving each one a leading role in the narrative.
As Marvel has yet to officially confirm any casting beyond Sink, Weaving, and Connor, and with speculation continuing to evolve, fans may have to wait for a more definitive announcement to know which mutants will ultimately make the cut. Given the multitude of competing reports, Marvel’s eventual reveal could still surprise audiences, regardless of how credible the current rumors appear.
