Hollywood’s leading stars often seize the chance to share their aspirations about projects they wish to join, and few franchises evoke such admiration as Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ saga. With its breathtaking visuals and an impressive ensemble cast, the series has become a coveted opportunity for actors observing from the sidelines.

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock have recently been busy promoting their long-awaited reunion project, the sequel to ‘Practical Magic’. Throughout their promotional tour, the duo has answered numerous lighthearted questions about their careers, friendship, and the franchises they hope to be part of.

During one of these discussions, Kidman made her passion for ‘Dune’ abundantly clear. She stated, “I’d love to be in the Dune sequel. I’m a Dunie, I love Dune. I’m obsessed,” as reported by INYIM Media, which covered their appearance on Vogue’s rapid-fire “Off the Cuff” series.

This isn’t the first instance of Kidman expressing her admiration for the franchise. Back in December 2024, during a conversation with Zendaya for Variety’s Actors on Actors series, she referred to herself as a “Dunie” and shared how she paid to see ‘Dune: Part Two’ at midnight in London while battling jet lag, captivated by the experience, according to Variety.

What makes Kidman’s enthusiasm particularly noteworthy is the timing. Villeneuve’s ‘Dune: Part Three’ has already completed filming and is set for release on December 18, featuring returning stars like Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, and Rebecca Ferguson, who were all confirmed well before Kidman’s recent comments.

Villeneuve has also made it clear that this installment will be his final chapter in the franchise, closing the door on any potential late additions. This context makes Kidman’s wish feel more like a heartfelt fan confession rather than a serious casting request.

The exchange reportedly addressed this awkward reality directly, with Bullock questioning why Kidman wasn’t already part of the franchise given her evident passion. Kidman explained that the ‘Dune’ team simply never invited her to participate, calling it devastating, before admitting she’d rather just enjoy the experience as an audience member.

This conversation took place while Kidman and Bullock were promoting ‘Practical Magic 2,’ their own long-anticipated sequel set to hit theaters on September 11. The two reprise their roles as the Owens sisters nearly three decades after the original film gained a cult following, joined by a cast that includes Joey King, Lee Pace, and Maisie Williams.

Given the amount of time they spent discussing another franchise during their press run, it’s evident that Kidman’s ‘Dune’ fandom has become a recurring theme between the co-stars. Whether this enthusiasm will ever translate into an actual role remains unlikely, especially with Villeneuve’s trilogy coming to a close.

For now, fans will have to imagine what a Kidman cameo might have looked like amidst the sandworms and spice of Arrakis. Given her history of scene-stealing performances across various genres, it’s easy to understand why many would have welcomed her into the world Villeneuve has crafted.
