‘Off Campus’ Star Mika Abdalla Shines in New Photoshoot and Interview
Mika Abdalla is currently in the spotlight, and it’s not solely due to her role in ‘Off Campus’. The actress recently graced the pages of The Hollywood Reporter with a stunning photoshoot and an insightful interview, where she discussed her breakout performance as Allie Hayes and the significant character development she undergoes throughout the first season of the Prime Video romance series.
The photoshoot highlighted a more glamorous side of Abdalla, while the interview delved into the emotional evolution of her character. ‘Off Campus’ has rapidly garnered a dedicated fanbase online, particularly among followers of Elle Kennedy’s beloved book series that inspired this adaptation.
In her conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Abdalla revealed that she quickly recognized that Allie’s narrative would be more prominent in season one than what fans might anticipate from the first book, ‘The Deal’.
“I learned pretty early on that Allie’s story is a lot more prevalent in season one than it is in ‘The Deal’, which is nice,” she shared.
Initially, Allie is portrayed as Hannah Wells’ lively and supportive best friend, always ready with a joke and helping her roommate navigate challenges while managing her own tumultuous relationship. However, as the season progresses, viewers begin to see a different side of her.
According to Abdalla, Allie is still on a journey of self-discovery. She explained that the character often puts on a brave face, pretending to have everything figured out, even when she feels lost.
“She’s in this forced way of being. She has a lot of big ideas about what she wants for her life in an idealistic way,” Abdalla noted. “Like most 18, 19, 20-year-olds, who have just left home for the first time discover, sometimes your expectations don’t match up to what is meant for you in life.”
Abdalla also emphasized the emotional depth of Allie, who, despite her confident exterior, grapples with her own feelings and identity. While assisting Hannah through her relationship issues, Allie is secretly facing her own struggles.
“We see her find herself and feel comfortable in being honest in a way that’s new and scary and overwhelming to her,” Abdalla explained. “But then we also see her put up this front for her best friend, who’s going through something much more.”
One aspect Abdalla appreciates about ‘Off Campus’ is the authenticity of the characters compared to many other romance series aimed at younger audiences. She pointed out that each character conceals parts of themselves and behaves differently based on their company.

“They all use fronts that are very who they want to be. Then we get to see them in the ways that they interact with other people that are maybe closer to them or the way that they are when they’re alone,” she added.
Abdalla also addressed the expectations from fans of the books. With a substantial online following prior to the announcement of the Prime Video adaptation, there was pressure to ensure that fans connected with the characters portrayed on screen.
Nevertheless, Abdalla reported that the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive.
“It’s been exciting to give the people what they want because I think the characters are honored in such a beautiful way,” she expressed.
Abdalla also hinted that long-time readers can look forward to many iconic moments from the books making their way into the series.
“We do include a lot of the iconic scenes or moments or whatever from the books in the show, so I’m really excited for the book fans to see those.”
The first season of ‘Off Campus’ primarily revolves around the romance between Hannah Wells and Garrett Graham, portrayed by Ella Bright and Belmont Cameli. However, fans are already aware that Allie’s storyline is set to gain more significance as the series progresses, particularly with the increasing focus on her connection to Dean Di Laurentis.
With her feature in The Hollywood Reporter, a stylish new photoshoot, and her rising popularity from the series, Abdalla’s moment in the limelight is clearly just beginning.
