Tom Hardy’s involvement in ‘MobLand’ season 3 hangs in the balance following reports of significant behind-the-scenes conflicts, but there remains a possibility for his return.

As reported by journalist Matt Belloni in the What I’m Hearing newsletter at Puck, Paramount is actively working to set up a meeting between Tom Hardy and the ‘MobLand’ production team. This meeting aims to address the issues that led to Hardy’s removal from the upcoming season.

The controversy began with claims that Hardy was dismissed from the Paramount+ crime series, primarily due to repeated tardiness on set during production. Tensions reportedly escalated between Hardy and showrunner and executive producer Jez Butterworth, with sources indicating that Hardy was dissatisfied with the show’s shift towards a broader ensemble narrative rather than focusing on his character.

The situation intensified during the production of season 2, with Butterworth allegedly threatening to exit the series if Hardy remained for season 3. Consequently, Paramount opted to remove Hardy from the project.

In the wake of the firing news, additional reports emerged detailing challenges on set. Some suggested that Hardy had conflicts with co-stars Helen Mirren and Pierce Brosnan. There were also accounts of filming delays attributed to Hardy spending extended periods in his trailer, which created friction among the cast and crew. These allegations have not been publicly addressed by Hardy or any involved parties.

Despite the turmoil, the latest update indicates that the situation is not yet resolved. Paramount executive producer David Glasser is reportedly willing to meet with Hardy, and the outcome of this discussion could determine whether Hardy returns or if the show continues without him.

Currently, ‘MobLand’ season 3 is in development, with an active writers’ room and early plans to commence filming later this year. Writers are proceeding without Hardy in their scripts, and discussions have begun regarding potential replacements for his role, particularly for characters in his age range.

Nonetheless, Hardy remains a pivotal character in ‘MobLand’. He portrays Harry Da Souza, a fixer tied to a powerful crime family led by Conrad, played by Pierce Brosnan, and Maeve, portrayed by Helen Mirren. His character faced a perilous situation at the conclusion of season 1 after being stabbed, but he survived and is anticipated to appear in season 2.

Created by Ronan Bennett, ‘MobLand’ features Jez Butterworth co-writing season 1 and Guy Ritchie directing early episodes. The series has performed strongly for Paramount+, attracting a substantial audience since its debut. Reports indicate that the first season alone garnered over 26 million views.

At this point, nothing is confirmed regarding Hardy’s return. The production is forging ahead, but the upcoming meeting could potentially alter the course of events. Regardless of his involvement, ‘MobLand’ season 3 is expected to progress, and the decision will likely influence the series’ future.
