Patrick Stewart has addressed recent rumors suggesting that ‘Avengers: Doomsday‘ would mark his final acting role, and the esteemed actor has confirmed that he has no plans to retire in the near future.

The speculation emerged online after reports indicated that Stewart might step back from acting following his return as Professor Charles Xavier in Marvel’s upcoming film. This led many fans to wonder if one of Hollywood’s most revered actors was preparing to conclude his career. However, Stewart has now clarified that these reports are unfounded.

In a conversation with TV Insider, Stewart was directly asked if he was considering retirement or slowing down. He acknowledged that as he has aged, finding roles has become more challenging, but he expressed his passion for acting and his desire to continue embracing new opportunities.

“As any actor my age will tell you, there are fewer and fewer available roles as we get older,” Stewart stated. “That being said, I still continue to receive interesting offers and I love being challenged by new work, like voicing a pig’s head in Riz Ahmed’s brilliant new series Bait. I can’t imagine ever officially ‘retiring’. I’ll always and forever be an actor.”

His comments will likely be welcomed by fans who feared that ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ could signify the end of his illustrious career. So how did the retirement rumors start?

Reports suggest that the speculation originated from a discussion on Kristian Harloff’s podcast last November. During the talk, there was mention of the possibility of Stewart stepping away from acting after his next role as Professor X. While nothing was confirmed during the conversation, the idea quickly spread across social media and entertainment news outlets, leading many to share the claim as if it were confirmed. Stewart’s recent interview now dispels those rumors.

Stewart boasts one of the longest careers in the entertainment industry, having begun acting in 1959. He has spent decades establishing a reputation through film, television, and theater. He gained worldwide fame by portraying Captain Jean-Luc Picard in the ‘Star Trek’ franchise and later took on the role of Professor Charles Xavier in the ‘X-Men’ films.

As he approaches his 86th birthday, Stewart continues to engage in various projects. In addition to filming ‘Avengers: Doomsday,’ he remains active in theater and voice acting. One of his recent roles includes voicing a character in ‘The Sheep Detectives,’ demonstrating his ongoing interest in diverse roles.

While Stewart acknowledged that opportunities naturally diminish with age, he emphasized that he has no plans to step back simply due to his age.

For fans, this means ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ is unlikely to be the last opportunity to see him on screen. Although he may take on fewer projects than in the past, Stewart’s own words indicate that acting remains a vital part of his life.

For now, audiences can anticipate his return as Professor X later this year, reassured that one of Hollywood’s most iconic figures is not ready to conclude his remarkable career.
