Cate Blanchett, Selena Gomez, and Michael Fassbender are set to star in the upcoming film from ‘The Brutalist’ director Brady Corbet, as reported by Variety.

This casting news was first hinted at during a masterclass at the Cannes Film Festival on Sunday, where Blanchett revealed she was preparing to collaborate with Corbet. Variety later confirmed her official involvement, along with Gomez and Fassbender, with Gomez’s participation previously reported by The InSneider.

The film remains untitled and is being kept under wraps. However, Corbet has shared insights about his vision in past interviews, describing the project as ambitious and unconventional, primarily set in the 1970s while incorporating story elements that span from the 19th century to the present day.

“The film spans from the 19th century into the present day — it’s just predominantly focused on the ’70s. The film is really, really genre-defying,” Corbet stated in an earlier interview with The Hollywood Reporter.

He has also indicated that the project will be expansive in scope, noting that the script is approximately 200 pages long, suggesting a lengthy runtime that would exceed even ‘The Brutalist,’ which already ran for over three hours.

The film is expected to utilize rare 65mm film cameras, continuing Corbet’s commitment to large-format, cinematic visuals. Producer Andrew Morrison is attached through Kaplan Morrison, marking Corbet’s fourth feature film following ‘The Childhood of a Leader,’ ‘Vox Lux,’ and ‘The Brutalist.’

Cate Blanchett brings a wealth of awards history to the project, holding two Oscars and having collaborated with renowned directors such as Martin Scorsese, David Fincher, Guillermo del Toro, and Wes Anderson. Her latest work includes Jim Jarmusch’s ‘Father Mother Sister Brother,’ which won the Golden Lion at Venice.

Selena Gomez continues to broaden her film career alongside her music and business ventures. She began as a Disney Channel star before transitioning to films like ‘Spring Breakers.’ Recently, she starred in Jacques Audiard’s ‘Emilia Pérez,’ which earned her a Cannes acting award shared with her co-stars. She also stars in Hulu’s ‘Only Murders in the Building,’ which has run for five seasons and continues to be renewed.

Details regarding the story and characters in Corbet’s new film have yet to be disclosed, and representatives for the actors have not commented publicly, according to Variety.
