Shemar Moore Reveals He Hasn’t Been Contacted for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’
Few live-action supporting characters in the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ movies have had a stranger journey than Randall, the charming groom who turned out to be a government agent. Now, the actor behind him is back in the spotlight, and discussions about his future in the franchise have taken an interesting turn on social media.
Shemar Moore joined the series in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ as Randall, the fiancé of Natasha Rothwell’s Rachel. He was later revealed to be an undercover agent for G.U.N., tasked with capturing Sonic and Tails, but he and Rachel reconcile by the film’s end. The couple only made a cameo in the third film, where Tom and Maddie used Tails’ technology to disguise themselves as Randall and Rachel.
With the fourth film now completed, fans have been eager to know if Randall will return. Moore has shared his thoughts, and the details are more complex than some headlines suggest. A post from The Hollywood Handle on X, citing Screen Rant, claimed he “will not return” as Randall, quickly garnering over 500 likes.
In an interview with Screen Rant’s Grant Hermanns for its ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ cover story, Moore described his experience on the first two movies as enjoyable. He mentioned that many of his recent fan interactions have revolved around the ‘Sonic’ films rather than his roles in ‘Criminal Minds’, ‘The Young and the Restless’, or ‘S.W.A.T.’.
More importantly, Screen Rant reports that Moore indicated he has not yet been contacted about returning for ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 4’. This does not necessarily mean he has been written out, and the outlet notes the secrecy and non-disclosure agreements common on franchise sets, suggesting that an actor may need to keep the details of a return under wraps.
Moore expressed a desire for more family-friendly projects for his young daughter Frankie, so she has something to watch other than “Daddy scowling and shooting bad guys.” He also mentioned producer Neal H. Moritz, who also produces the ‘S.W.A.T.’ series, stating that Moritz has his number and would “catch some smoke” without him. As Moore told Screen Rant, “my daughter demands it.”
In summary, the actor says he hasn’t been contacted, and there is no confirmation either way regarding his return. The notion that he has been ruled out seems to extend beyond what he actually stated.

The publicly announced lineup does not currently include Randall or Rachel. The confirmed cast features Jim Carrey as Dr. Robotnik, Ben Schwartz as Sonic, Idris Elba as Knuckles, Keanu Reeves as Shadow, James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Tom and Maddie, and Kristen Bell as Amy Rose. Newcomers Ben Kingsley, Nick Offerman, Matt Berry, and Richard Ayoade will also join in undisclosed roles.
Jeff Fowler is back in the director’s chair, with principal photography having begun in March 2026 and wrapped in May. The film will incorporate elements from the video game ‘Sonic CD’ and will feature Metal Sonic. Paramount has slated it for release on March 19, 2027.
The stakes are high for a franchise that has seen consistent growth. ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ earned $405.4 million worldwide, while the third film reached $492.2 million.
In the meantime, Moore has plenty of work lined up. ‘S.W.A.T. Exiles’ is set to premiere on Starz this fall, with Moore reprising his role as Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, leading an experimental unit of young recruits. The Wrap’s review notes he slips back into the role as if he never left.
This busy schedule makes a voiceover or cameo appearance more feasible than a significant commitment, and Randall’s role in the films has always been relatively small. Whether he will appear in some capacity remains uncertain, and Paramount has not provided any comments.
